is a prototypical defender who has been waiting in the wings to prove himself for the Friars. Kevin is not alone in this regard, as it is never easy to earn time at Malvern Prep’s premier program! He positions himself with poise down low at close. Piffath is powerful and can clear the crease by lowering the shoulder, driving through opponents off the low base. He slides and rotates with a sense of urgency like a missile on a mission. Kevin can use his range to press out on the perimeter and knock down passes or steal possessions. He shows a nice touch on his passes to head man the ball upfield or down the line. Piffath is part of an underdog senior class that is chomping at the bit to prove themselves as prospects. He will have his back up against a wall this year, which makes him and his comrades a dangerous bunch! Verbally committed to Penn State.

Piffath, who narrowly missed the Top 100, quickly found a home at Penn State, where he’ll join his older brother Kevin, a freshman defenseman. At 6’1 and 190 pounds, Kevin already has the frame to play Big 10 lacrosse along with the proper mindset and intangibles. He plays with an edge and is outstanding with his positioning, to the point where it always feels like he’s got things under control, even when quicker attackmen get a step. Piffath is great at playing the leverage game at GLE and is an excellent communicator away from the ball — all qualities you often find when recruiting Malvern. One Division I assistant coach I spoke to recently raved about his improvement from his first summer event to his last (and I couldn’t help but agree), which speaks volumes about his long-term development, especially given the fact that he plays for a high school program that has been a breeding ground for talent on both sides of the ball.

After a fantastic summer on the club and showcase circuit, Piffath could be headed for a breakout high school season here in 2024. In addition to playing hardnosed and high IQ defense for Team Ten, this past summer Piffath was an All-Star selection at the One Percent Showcase and a member of Team Philadelphia at the New Balance All-America games. Watch Piffath for an extended period and it is easy to see why he earned those honors. In on-ball situations, Piffath uses his quick lateral movements and patience to supply outstanding 1v1 coverage. He’s certainly capable of physically overpowering his man, but Piffath’s main sources of creating turnovers are timely poke checks as well as forceful stick checks. Once Piffath has relieved his man of possession, he excels at pouncing on the loose ball and heading downfield. Inside the box, Piffath executes precise slides and has a knack for injecting his stick into shooting and passing lanes.
