Carey Smith | Prep Lacrosse Scout
Recently, I profiled Smith as one of the Pennsylvania prospects college coaches should scout during the 3A state tournament. On Saturday, Smith made me look smart by pouring in eight goals as he propelled La Salle to a quarterfinal win over Ridley. Yesterday, Smith posted an incredible performance as he scored in every way imaginable. What impressed the most about Smith’s remarkable performance was his ability to use his size and physicality to dodge through body contact as well as stick checks until he found open space for a shot. Smith also displayed nifty stick maneuvers on those charges to the cage. Plus, this sophomore proved he could rip long-range shots from anywhere on the field.

Smith is a long and physically imposing 200-pound attack prospect who posted a tremendous sophomore season. The trifecta of his size, quick burst, and ability to play with both hands makes Smith extremely difficult to defend 1v1. Smith can bully an opposing defender until he gets to his favorite spots and then drop an overhand hammer. He can also run over the initial defender and then charge through stick checks from sliding poles on his way to the cage for a scoring chance in close. Smith’s precise aim and powerful shot enable him to snipe from a long distance. This 2028 prospect is also a master at absorbing double teams and then hitting the open teammate with a dime. College coaches will love the poise Smith plays with, even under the most intense defensive pressure.

Smith is a long andsolidly built (200 lbs.) offensive prospect who displayed polished stick skills during La Salle’s big win. This 2028 started at attack for the Explorers and recorded a goal as well as an assist. Smith’s assist came on the game winning goal where he delivered a timely dime from the wing to Trymbiski as his fellow attackman came across the middle of the field. Just before he delivered that assist, Smith saved La Salle from a horrible turnover by winning a physical ground ball battle and then carrying the ball to open space. One other item that popped about Smith was his poise. Even though he is only a sophomore, Smith never allowed Bosco’s intense on-ball pressure to speed him up.
