Malone’s trifecta of size (6’2”), speed and elusive stick maneuvers made him difficult to defend on Saturday. This Duke signee registered two goals and an assist during La Salle’s defeat of Don Bosco. His first goal was a result of a smooth hitch move that froze the initial defender for a split second. Malone then raced down the right alley and placed a shot over the goalie’s shoulder and into the net. On his second goal, Malone hauled in a clearing pass at midfield and then exploded into the offensive end. He raced through the entire Bosco defense before unleashing a rocket into the net. In this game Malone also demonstrated that he could hustle back at play SSDM for a stretch.

This Duke commit is coming of an impressive junior season, so it should not be a surprise that Malone was a standout performer at the Nike National All-Star Games. Malone is a fast midfielder with considerable size and an attacking mindset. That trifecta allowed Malone to get downhill in a flash (going left or right) then shoot or distribute on the run. His ability to finish or pass with either hand was incredibly impressive. Malone’s quickness and creative change of direction cuts produced a few SportsCenter worthy moves. His was able to find the back of the net while in heavy traffic. On the perimeter, Malone excelled at sweeping over the top of the opposing defense into open space and then getting his hands free for a shot. Malone also displayed well-timed off ball movements that led to several clean step downs.

As a freshman Malone registered 16 goals to go along with 12 assists and was a 2nd Team All-Philadelphia Catholic League selection. Needless to say, the upside on this midfielder is ridiculous. Malone is an athletic and speedy prospect with creative stick skills. When he is in transition, Malone can fire on the run with either hand. He is a shifty prospect who in 6-on-6 action, will use quick dodges or his excellent spin move to find open space for a shot. Malone owns tremendous off-ball instincts and is constantly relocating to an open crease in the defense. As soon as the ball finds Malone, his quick trigger enables him to uncork a vicious step-down shot. As a bonus to his offensive skills, Malone has the size and athleticism to drop back and play respectable defense.
