Expert Analysis
Carey Smith | Prep Lacrosse Scout
Crowe was a rock steady defensive presence for Hill School in this win. This athletic and high-IQ pole with polished footwork provided menacing on-ball pressure for Hill’s defense. Crowe frequently pressed out on ball carriers and then caused turnovers with his heavy stick checks and pokes. The even more impressive part of Crowe’s efforts on Friday was his ability to snare GBs in traffic and then clear the ball himself. On two separate occasions, Crowe used nifty toe drags to elude SPS defenders and then make his way up the field.

This solidly built and rangy pole did a remarkable job of defending the ball in space. Several times, Crowe pushed out near the midfield line to pick up a ball carrier and shut down a transition opportunity for Don Bosco. His speed and quick lateral movements allowed Crowe to stay glued to the ball carriers’ hips as they swept across the field. Crowe caused turnovers via stick checks, pokes, and lifts. He also disrupted passing lanes with his stick. In the 2nd quarter, Crowe ate an absolute missile that left a visible mark on his leg. He demonstrated some real toughness by staying in the game after that incident.

This long and solidly built pole is a remarkable open-field defender. Out on the perimeter, Crowe does a fantastic job of striking a balance between pressuring the ball and staying in front of his man. Inside the box, he has a physical edge to his game, times his slides perfectly, and has a knack for inserting his stick into shooting and passing lanes. Plus, Crowe is a groundball machine. He also will not hesitate to mix it up in a scrum and exit with possession. Then Crowe’s decent speed and high IQ enable him to carry the ball over midfield and make smart decisions in the offensive half. Back in January, Crowe was highlighted as a standout at the NLF Futures event.

Standing 6’1, Crowe has long arms that he uses to his advantage to get his stick out in passing lanes to hinder offensive possessions. He did so on a handful of occasions and also caused several turnovers when sliding. There’s no doubt that he’s still growing into his body, but he moves nicely for his size and looks like he’s still growing. Coachable and steady during Saturday’s drills, he played picks well and made some heads-up plays.
