Expert Analysis
Carey Smith | Prep Lacrosse Scout
Back in early September, Ippoldo committed to Cornell, and on Tuesday night, it was obvious why he was a Week 1 commit for the Class of 2027. Against MP, Ippoldo was simply unbelievable. He ate up missiles from deep and stoned a number of MP shot attempts that came from point-blank range. Ippoldo’s fast hands, agility, and positioning skills were extremely impressive. Another item that popped about Ippoldo last night was his outlet passes. Ippoldo did a fantastic job of getting the ball out of his stick swiftly and leading teammates down the field with precise dimes.

Included in Cornell’s week one haul of 2027 prospects was this incredible net minder. Ippoldo is widely considered a Top 40 prospect nationally and there is good reason for that lofty ranking. As a sophomore starter last year at La Salle, Ippoldo was a brick wall in net. His hand speed and active stick combined with the way Ippoldo stands tall between the pipes makes it impossible for shooters to beat him up high. Ippoldo’s flexibility, refined footwork and controlled drops enable him to stop low shots too. Plus, Ippoldo is a speedy distributor who delivers smart and precise outlet passes. Still, what the Cornell staff will love the most about Ippoldo is his all-around athletic ability. Ippoldo owns the speed, agility, elusive moves, and non-stop motor that is typical of a standout midfielder.

Like Griffin, the No. 40 junior wasted no time in pulling the trigger on Cornell, which has built a strong recent track record of recruiting both high-level goalie recruits and the greater Philly area as a whole. Ippoldo started and excelled for the Explorers as a starter this past season, then carried over that success to the summer circuit. He helped separate himself from a pack of outstanding ’27 goalies due to his elite ability out of the crease, among other qualities, constantly throwing outlets on a rope and showing off his athleticism and hustle. Ippoldo is incredibly poised in cage, demonstrating outstanding hand speed and instincts along with the unflappability required to play the position.
