I don't even need to say the name of this school for you to know which lacrosse team I'm talking about. They're one of, if not the, most recognizable high school lacrosse programs in the country, and they are known for their iconic yellow helmets that show up at every elite club tournament and top-tier showcase. Safe to say, if you're a club lacrosse player, coach, a fan of high school lacrosse, or someone who follows recruiting and rankings, you know this school.

Brunswick's lacrosse program has become synonymous with high-level competition, toughness, and character qualities that have defined the Bruins for over half a century. Since its founding in 1967, Brunswick Lacrosse has grown from a competitive local team into a national powerhouse consistently producing elite players who excel at the top end of the D1-NCAA.

The Birth of a Program and the Rise to Prominence

Brunswick Lacrosse was founded in 1967, during a time when Connecticut lacrosse was still in its early stages. Back then, the primary programs taking the field were Brunswick and Wilton. As the sport grew in popularity throughout the Northeast, Brunswick remained a mainstay in elite lacrosse circles, building a strong tradition of excellence.

What sets Brunswick apart from other prep school teams comes down to a few key factors. First, they compete in the prestigious New England West 1 Conference, which includes some of the top boarding schools in the country such as Deerfield, Salisbury, Taft, Loomis Chaffee, Avon Old Farms, and others. Brunswick is the only non-boarding day school in this highly competitive conference.

Second, Brunswick competes in the Prep National Championship Tournament every year, one of North America's most prestigious high school lacrosse championships. The tournament features some of the best programs in the country, including Lawrenceville, Deerfield, and Salisbury.

Finally, Brunswick is located in Greenwich, Connecticut, the closest Connecticut town to Westchester County and New York City. This prime location, with affluent southern Westchester County towns to the west, prestigious northern Westchester towns to the north, and Fairfield County's Gold Coast towns to the east, uniquely positions Brunswick to recruit top talent as a day school in the heart of this lacrosse hotbed, Westchester and Fairfield Counties, collectively known as CONNY. Brunswick sits in the ideal "middle ground" to attract the best and most elite players. Since Brunswick is both an elite day school and a highly prestigious prep school, its lacrosse program operates much like, and is similar to an MIAA Prep School in Maryland, but serves the New York City Tri-State area.

Jeff Harris was instrumental in transforming Brunswick into a true Division I caliber program, laying a foundation of discipline and competitiveness. In 2000, Harris was joined by David Bruce, who served as an assistant before taking over the head coaching job in 2006. Bruce brought a modern vision and energy to Brunswick lacrosse, and the program reached new heights.

A turning point came in 2008 when Brunswick, an 8-9 team, faced The Haverford School from Philadelphia, a national powerhouse with a 17-7 record. Brunswick stunned Haverford with an 8-6 victory, a game Coach Bruce cites as pivotal in elevating the program onto the national lacrosse stage. Since that moment, Brunswick has consistently competed with and defeated some of the top programs in North America.

The legacy of Brunswick lacrosse is best told through the long list of athletes who've moved on to thrive at the collegiate level. These players paved the way for the program and embodied the Bruins' commitment to hard work, leadership, and brotherhood. Below is a comprehensive list of Brunswick lacrosse alumni who continued their careers at the next level playing Division 1 lacrosse:

Keys to the 2025 Season

Brunswick's defense and face-offs are expected to be the team's greatest strengths, led by standouts like Diaz-Motos, Speiss, Hiebert, and Buttafucco. Offensively, the Bruins are young but full of potential. The team is expected to grow into its identity as the season progresses, and the leadership from the upperclassmen will be critical as the younger players step into more prominent roles.

Culture, Brotherhood, and Competitive Fire

At its core, Brunswick Lacrosse is about team chemistry and toughness. “We always have a scrappy team,” says coach Bruce. That scrappiness, combined with talent and preparation, fuels the Bruins' success year after year.

The team culture is close-knit, emphasizing brotherhood on and off the field. The program's reputation for producing multi-sport athletes also sets it apart. Many Bruins compete in football and hockey during the offseason.

A Challenging Schedule, Big Matchups Ahead

Brunswick's schedule reflects its national standing. Competing in the Prep National Championship they compete against Lawrenceville, Salisbury, and Deerfield, and being a part of the New England West 1 conference they compete against Taft, Loomis Chaffee, Avon Old Farms, Hotchkiss, Westminster, and Trinity-Pawling, they also face elite opponents like Hill Academy from Canada, Delbarton and Seton Hall Prep from New Jersey, Malvern Prep and the Hill School from Pennsylvania, and Darien, Ridgefield, and Staples from Connecticut. These matchups will be key tests as Brunswick looks to return to the Prep Championship and chase another historic season.

Final Word: Tradition Meets Ambition

With a deep alumni network, a history of success, and a roster loaded with Top players and colossal potential, Brunswick Lacrosse enters 2025 with high expectations and the tools to meet them. Whether recruiting top talent, developing young players or competing for titles, the Bruins continue to be a model program in the world of prep lacrosse.

He showcases an excellent right-handed shot on the run, consistently forcing defenses to slide, but it's his versatility and decision-making under pressure that set him apart. Hausmann has a natural ability to read defenses and create offense beyond just his shooting, demonstrating a complete skill set at the midfield position. The younger brother of Virginia freshman midfielder Hudson Hausmann, Charlie carries the family name with pride—and the competitive fire to forge his own path. With his high lacrosse IQ and dynamic playmaking ability, Charlie is more than ready to step into the spotlight.
