What began as a few instructional camps and clinics has grown into one of the nation's premier club lacrosse programs, built on a vision of developing athletes the right way and turning them into leaders. Founded in 2005 by Randy Laco, Next Level Lacrosse was created to serve the lacrosse community across Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia through elite camps, clinics, and travel teams. From its earliest days, the club earned a reputation for running some of the most well-organized and player-focused developmental programming in the region. That foundation helped establish Next Level as a trusted destination for families seeking high-level instruction rooted in both skill development and character growth.

A significant turning point for the club came in 2016, when Dave Mitchell took over as President of Next Level Lacrosse and hired his brother, Boh Mitchell, as co-owner and General Manager. Under the Mitchell brothers' leadership, the program has experienced significant growth and national recognition. The club expanded from just eight travel teams in 2017 to 18 teams by 2025, with multiple age groups consistently ranked among the top 10 teams in the country. At the high school level, Next Level has become synonymous with strong recruiting outcomes, producing 175 college commitments across the past seven graduating classes, an average of 25 commits per class from a single regional DMV-based player pool.

Beyond competitive success, Next Level has also played a meaningful role in shaping the broader club lacrosse landscape. The program was instrumental in the founding of the Alliance Lacrosse League, a collaborative partnership with Mad Dog Lacrosse, Sweetlax, 3D New England, and Building Blocks Lacrosse. The league was formed with a clear mission: to grow the game by creating fair, high-level recruiting events through an open-access model that gives strong regional programs equal access to elite competition and exposure, welcoming any competitive, regionally based club program to participate.

The club's legacy is reflected in its alumni base, which spans every major college lacrosse conference. Graduated standouts include Isaac Aronson, a former Michigan captain, and Andrew O'Berry, who captained Harvard before finishing his career at UNC. Current college stars include Virginia attackman Ryan Dunkel, the No. 1-ranked player in the Class of 2024, and Navy captain Mac Haley. Just as important, many alumni remain closely connected to the program, returning as coaches and mentors, players such as Maryland midfielder John Draley, St. Joseph's goalie Tommy Gross, and Dartmouth defender Will Cohen. TJ Haley, a former starting attackman for Georgetown, returned to coach the program during his college years, and that coaching experience helped him earn an assistant coaching position at Lehigh.

At the 2028 level, Next Level Blue benefits from rare continuity and stability under Head Coach Dave Mitchell, who has guided this group since second grade. That long-term investment has allowed the staff to shape a clear identity built on accountability, lacrosse IQ, and chemistry. Mitchell is joined by Phil Lipka, a former Mount St. Mary's defender, and Hugh Preas, a full-time Next Level director and Defensive Coordinator at St. Albans School in Washington, DC. Together, the staff emphasizes fundamentals, decision-making, and habits that translate well beyond the youth level.

On the field, Next Level 2028 Blue is defined by its defensive backbone. The unit features long, athletic, and physical defenders who are comfortable playing on the ball, winning one-on-one matchups, and executing team defensive concepts with strong communication and cohesion. Supported by two high-level goalies who provide elite shot-stopping, leadership, and confidence in the cage, the defense plays fast, aggressive, and consistently limits high-quality scoring chances. At the faceoff X, a strong duo generates extra possessions and jumpstarts transition opportunities. Offensively, the 2028s operate with a selfless, team-first approach built on ball movement, positionless pair play, and constant off-ball activity, resulting in winning records last summer and fall and notable victories over Philly Freedom, Mad Dog, Red Hots, Sweetlax Florida, and Texas Nationals. As the group continues to mature, the 2028s are well-positioned to make a strong statement during the upcoming recruiting summer.

More than just a talented roster, Next Level 2028 Blue reflects the core values that have defined the Next Level Lacrosse program for nearly two decades, including a strong emphasis on player development, accountability, and elite coaching. This group is being prepared not only to compete at the highest levels of club lacrosse but also to follow the path of the many Next Level alumni who have gone on to succeed in high school, college, and beyond. With a proven developmental model, a deep alumni network, and a leadership group committed to doing things the right way, Next Level Lacrosse is positioned to continue developing elite athletes into leaders and dominant lacrosse players fully prepared to compete and thrive at the Next Level.
