McAneney showed in this game just how versatile and multi-dimensional he can be for an offense. He’s currently leading the Renegades in goals (52) and added to his tally in the first quarter with a physical dodge from X to get top-side, but he is much more than a goal scorer, which he proved with his five assists. The Duke commit stayed active as a dodger and also showed his awareness and chemistry with Rotkowitz, knowing where he was going to be for a high percentage shot. On his final assist to Mason McGovern Mason McGovern 5'11" | 160 lbs | M | Right Hand Shawnee | 2029 NJ , he got a pass in the middle of the field and stayed calm under pressure, dishing out a quick pass to his wide open line-mate for a step down goal. McAneney is so challenging to cover because he garners so much attention with his dodging ability that it frees up himself or a teammate for a quality look at the cage.

Duke picked up a top recruit in McAneney, who has shown the ability to impact the game in several ways. He scorched opponents last spring and undoubtedly finished first on his team in all scoring categories with 70 goals, and 38 assists for a total of 108 points as a sophomore. As the 20th-ranked player in the class, he is a dynamic lefty who works well from X, dodging 1-on-1 or playing the two-man game, with a quick change of direction, smooth stick skills, and good vision behind the net. When he’s able to get a step on his defender coming upfield, McAneney will increase his angle for a shot, pass it off if a slide comes early, or he’ll inside roll, finishing with efficiency in tight while adding in various stick fakes. When working above the net, he has a powerful step-down shot and works hard with his teammates to get open off-ball.

earned US Lacrosse All-American (NJ-South) in 2024. Generally considered to be a top player in the class of 2026. McAneney has a motor that few others possess. His riding ability makes him an impact player more so than the average lefty-attacker. McAneney provides multiple second-chance opportunities for his team within the game. Thomas can jam the ball home catching any pass thrown to his face and finishing with ease. He cuts well off of the ball but also can serve as a primary dodger. His blend of size, speed, & strength makes it difficult for defenses to stop him. Thomas is a talented ball handler with tremendous vision helping his teammates get involved. Verbally committed to Duke.

McAneney is only a sophomore but played like a seasoned veteran on a big stage for Shawnee, producing five goals and five assists on the day. What stood out to me is how active he was whether at X or on the wing. He dodges with his head up, looking for cutters, but is also a threat to score. He leads his team in scoring with 69 goals and 38 assists.
