Eric Bretz | Prep Lacrosse Scout
McGovern was a standout performer for the Renegades this spring, posting 34 goals, 31 assists and 65 points, 3rd on the team in each category and showing a lot of promise for what the future might hold. He was a big reason why Shawnee got to the South Jersey Group 3 sectional finals where they fell short to a loaded Summit squad. However, in the semifinals against Moorestown, the Leading Edge product recorded a hat trick and a pair of assists in the 13-3 win. He has good speed at the midfield position to gain a step on his matchup and displays a quick trigger and a powerful shot to do damage from long distance. The future seems to be bright for this young prospect and he will be hoping to get Shawnee back to the top of the mountain.

During the 2026 season, McGovern has quickly established himself as one of the top 2029 prospects in the state of New Jersey. This freshman midfielder has scored 22 goals and dished out 18 assists for a Shawnee squad that is currently ranked No. 6 in the state. Last week, McGovern posted three goals and three dimes in a win over Lenape. Earlier this season, McGovern recorded three goals and four assists in a victory against Ridgefield (CT). In 6v6 action, McGovern has made a habit of abusing short sticks with his explosive first step and nasty moves. Once he has cooked the initial defender, McGovern has proven he can crank on the run with either hand. McGovern has also thrived in transition, where his speed and shiftiness enable him to go coast to coast for a goal or an assist. This athletic midfielder has also shown that he can absorb significant contact on those fast break chances and still maintain possession.
