The biggest high school rivalry in the state of Kentucky took to the lacrosse field as Trinity hosted St. Xavier for a midweek rivalry battle.

On a cool Wednesday night at Marshall Stadium in the heart of St. Matthews, the host Trinity Shamrocks fought off a strong comeback from archrival St. Xavier to earn a 14-13 win in double overtime. Senior Noah McQuillen scored the game-winner for the Rocks off a feed from [player_tooltip player_id='20799' first='Logan' last='Bryant'], a Fairfield commit.

Detroit Mercy-bound [player_tooltip player_id='15592' first='Canton' last='Lanham'] led a faceoff duo along with Braden Antle that helped the Rocks dominate the dot most of the night. However, turnovers and mistakes in the clearing game gave the Tigers something to pounce on and they would take full advantage. Trinity led 8-4 at the half, but a five-goal third quarter from St. Xavier pulled the Tigers within one at 10-9 heading into the final frame. With three seconds remaining in regulation, the Tigers forced overtime off a [player_tooltip player_id='31919' first='Davis' last='Mayer'] tally.

The win sends the Shamrocks into spring break on a high note. It also gives Trinity head coach Pete Schroder his first win over first-year St. Xavier head coach Kevin Doherty.

Trinity heads into a week off for spring break with a 9-1 record. St. Xavier drops to 4-3 on the year and has a big road stretch ahed of them over the next 11 days with road contests versus Montgomery Bell (Tenn.), North Allegheny (Pa.), and Culver (Ind.).

Here is a look at some standouts from Wednesday's night rivalry contest:
