Pennsylvania 2029s Who Impressed This Summer

Below is a review of five Class of 2029 prospects from Pennsylvania who impressed with their tremendous skills this summer.    Also a QB & DB in football, Foster is an extraordinarily athletic close defender with a high motor and an active stick. That trifecta enabled Foster to be a disruptive force on defense in June and July. From the Radar Invitational to Trilogy 24 to the NXT Invitational, Foster was a menacing on-ball presence. His speed, polished footwork, and ability to apply constant pressure on the hands of ball carriers created a truckload of turnovers. Off-ball, Foster's high IQ and anticipation skills produced timely slides and double teams. Some of those slides and double teams came with a healthy dose of physicality. Foster's imposing size skills and aggressive stick allowed him to vacuum up ground balls in traffic. Once the ball was in his stick, Foster swiftly carried the ball up field or executed a smart clearing pass. When Foster cleared the ball himself, he often generated transition scoring chances.     Lemieux is an athletic and wiry left-handed prospect who displayed filthy stick skills this summer. One item that really popped about Lemieux's skill set is his feathery touch. Whether he was shooting or passing, the precision, timing and creativity Lemieux displayed was remarkable. Lemieux's quick first step and shiftiness enabled him to dodge from the wing as well as X and then shoot or distribute on the run. His ability to slip past or underneath the slide defender led to scoring chances around the cage. Lemieux's inside roll was an especially effective tool for producing high percentage looks in-close. For a 2029, Lemieux was extremely comfortable operating in traffic and did an impressive job of protecting his stick. Lemieux's timely off-ball movements frequently resulted in clean catch and dunk opportunities.     During his incredible freshman campaign, McPartland scored 45 goals and handed out 20 assists as he helped push Scranton Prep to the District 2-2A title. In recognition of McPartland's outstanding first season at SP, he was selected as a 1st Team All-District selection. For an encore, McPartland torched opponents on the summer circuit with his elusive change of direction moves and filthy stick skills. McPartland excelled in unsettled action. On a fast break or after he has picked up a GB on a broken play, McPartland swiftly got downhill and put pressure on the defense. On his charges to the net, McPartland did an excellent job of reading the defense and then smartly deciding whether to shoot or distribute. In 6v6 action, McPartland specializes in dodging from the wing as well as X. From those spots, McPartland's ability to dodge going to his left or right and then shoot with either hand made him impossible to defend 1v1.     Melchionni is an agile, fleet-footed and skilled prospect. This rising sophomore spends the majority of time operating at SSDM, but this summer Melchionni proved he could contribute on offense, too. Melchionni was especially adept at turning defensive stops into transition scoring chances. On defense, Melchionni did a fantastic job of getting into ball carriers early in their dodges and knocking them of their intended paths. Melchionni used his agility and anticipation skills to stay in front of ball carriers for long stretches too. His high IQ and field awareness enabled Melchionni to execute timely double teams and recoveries. Melchionni's aggressive stick and non-stop motor made him a groundball machine. As a bonus to his multi-faceted skill set, Melchionni received a great deal of big game experience during his freshman year thanks to EA's national schedule.     One of the best kept secrets on Malvern Prep's deep roster is this dynamic face-off specialist. In June and July, Pizzi manned the dot for the nationally ranked Futures 2029 team and dominated the competition. On the club circuit, Pizzi displayed the athleticism, speed, and textbook mechanics needed for the next level. He excelled at winning clamps cleanly and then exploding away from the face-off area to creating transition opportunities for his team. When he pushed the ball deep into the offensive end, Pizzi was a legitimate threat to find the back of the net. On draws that dropped to the ground, Pizzi's non-stop motor and positioning skills allowed him to grind out a win. Pizzi's quickness, agility and aggressive stick work enabled him to track down loose balls and secure possession in a crowd.
