<p>This past Saturday the Haverford School (ranked No. 9 preseason) traveled down to Maryland to scrimmage traditional MIAA powerhouse the Gilman School.</p>
<!-- /wp:paragraph -->
<!-- wp:paragraph -->
<p>Gilman got on the board first in this scrimmage thanks to an incredible individual effort goal from midfielder [player_tooltip player_id='22985' first='Tommy' last='Malfa'] (Lafayette commit). The Haverford School struck back with three straight goals across the 1st quarter and early portion of the 2nd quarter. The last of which was a left-handed snipe from Harvard commit [player_tooltip player_id='127151' first='Chris' last='Burnetta'].</p>
<!-- /wp:paragraph -->
<!-- wp:paragraph -->
<p>Gilman stopped the bleeding momentarily and pulled within 3-2, but that was a close as they would get for a long stretch. Haverford poured in four of the next five goals in this contest and took a comfortable 7-3 lead during the 3rd quarter. The final tally in that run of goals by the Fords was an impressive 18-yard transition missile from [player_tooltip player_id='171276' first='Danny' last='Kinnard'].</p>
<!-- /wp:paragraph -->
<!-- wp:paragraph -->
<p>Gilman cut that lead that to 7-4 late in the 3rd quarter on a goal by [player_tooltip player_id='123701' first='Connor' last='Ward']. Soon after that tally by Gilman, mass substitutions by both sides began.</p>

<p class="text-gray-700">Cornell landed an absolute gem in this athletic pole with the speed, stick skills and high IQ to run at both close defense and LSM. This past Saturday, Gillin was a menacing on-ball presence. Gillin frequently created turnovers with his slaps and pokes. But more importantly, Gillin's smooth lateral movements, agility and refined instincts enabled him to stay in front of ball carriers for long stretches. Gillin simply wore out opposing offensive players with his relentless pressure until they moved the ball to a teammate. His quick reflexes and aggressive stick work produced several nice ground ball pickups too. </p>

<p class="text-gray-700">Kinnard's extraordinary athleticism and open field speed were on full display during this scrimmage. The 3rd quarter goal Kinnard scored came on a clearing play in which he raced around three Gilman defenders near the mid-field line and then executed a beautiful swim dodge on a pole that attempted to slow him down. Once he found open space, Kinnard unleashed an 18-yard sidearm rip into the top corner. Kinnard also did a fantastic job initiating from up top or the wing in 6v6 action. The High Point coaching staff is going to love Kinnard's ability to run at SSDM too. </p>

<p class="text-gray-700">O'Kane got the scoring started for the Fords with a swift dodge from the right wing that he finished via a powerful overhand bouncer. In the 2nd quarter, O'Kane initiated from X, and then dropped a timely, left-handed dime on teammate [player_tooltip player_id='127151' first='Chris' last='Burnetta']. In addition to his polished stick skills, O'Kane showed extreme poise in this game. He calmly quarterbacked the Haverford offense through significant contact as well as double teams. His quick first step caught Gilman defenders by surprise. By the end of the 2026 high school season, this stock rising sophomore should be one of the most sought after 2028s in Pennsylvania. </p>

<p class="text-gray-700">Gordon is a lanky athlete who posted an extremely solid day between the pipes for Gilman. This lefty displayed fast hands and an active stick. That combination allowed Gordon to cover the top side of the cage. Gordon's impressive agility enabled him slide side to side quickly or execute swift drops. His athleticism and quick reactions assisted Gordon with pouncing on a couple rebounds / loose balls that could have been trouble had Haverford been able to gain possession. Gordon was a plus player in the clearing game too. </p>

<p class="text-gray-700">Malfa (Lafayette commit) is a long and solidly built midfielder who impressed with his versatility. In the 1st quarter, he scored a left-handed goal that required an incredible individual effort. Malfa attempted to spin out of a double team when he lost his footing and fell to the ground. He quickly scrambled to his feet, split the double, charged to the cage, and then fired a left-handed shot into the net. In the 3rd quarter Malfa made a run down the right alley and dished out a beautiful assist to the high crease area with his right-hand while on the move. Malfa also hustled back and played SSDM at a highly respectable level. Malfa's long strides enabled him to glide up and down the field.</p>
