Malfa is a long and solidly built midfielder who impressed with his versatility. In the 1^st quarter, he scored a left-handed goal that required an incredible individual effort. Malfa attempted to spin out of a double team when he lost his footing and fell to the ground. He quickly scrambled to his feet, split the double, charged to the cage, and then fired a left-handed shot into the net. In the 3^rd quarter, Malfa made a run down the right alley and dished out a beautiful assist to the high crease area with his right hand while on the move. Malfa also hustled back and played SSDM at a highly respectable level. Malfa’s long strides enabled him to glide up and down the field.

Malfa is a true athlete who can impact the game in every area of the field. This spring, he did it all for Gilman, running both ways on the midfield line and even stepping in to take faceoffs when needed. On offense, he shows excellent proprioceptive skills with the ball, always finding a way to gain a step regardless of how his defender plays him. He’s a dual-handed threat who can rip shots from either side, while also standing out as a passer with vision to set up teammates. Defensively, Malfa has the size, speed, and athleticism to match up well and turn stops into transition opportunities. With his rare combination of two-way versatility, playmaking vision, and athleticism, Malfa has firmly established himself as one of Maryland’s top two-way 2027 midfielders to watch for.
