Palo Verde Pulls Away to Defeat Bishop Gorman, 10-6

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Palo Verde visited Bishop Gorman on Tuesday night in their first matchup of the year, and their first official matchup since last season's LVLA Final.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>It was a battle right from the beginning, and Palo Verde middie [player_tooltip player_id='171577' first='Brandon' last='Freitag'] struck first with a goal that was near the crease.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Bishop Gorman middie Zach Coneh then answered with an inside goal of his own to make it 1-1. Palo Verde middie Mason Robinson (Class of 2030) was the next to score, sweeping across the middle of the field before letting it go, making it 2-1. Then Seth Salinas darted inside from the wing and got his shot to put the score at 3-1 at the end of the first.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Later in the the second quarter, Walker Pennhollow on Bishop Gorman released a bouncer that fooled the Palo Verde goalie, making it 3-2. Mason Robinson then went back to work, and he had a lefty rip down the alley that found the back of the net after tipping off a defender's stick, putting the Panthers up 4-2.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Palo Verde middie Slater Salinas scored not much later by dodging from X and shooting just as he got to GLE, making it 5-2. The Palo Verde run continued in the second when [player_tooltip player_id='171379' first='Luke' last='Rava'] ripped a shot with almost no angle (right around GLE) and it went in just below the bar, making it 6-2 and giving the Panthers a comfortable cushion. But Bishop Gorman didn't get too down, and Walker Pennhallow got another tough shot to go, cutting into the Panthers' lead, 6-3.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Gaels' gritty play paid off again, and Zach Coneh tallied his second goal of the night when he shot it after a bit of a scrum a few yards in front of the goal, making it 6-4. It then went to halftime, and both teams recalibrated.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>At the start of the second half, Cash Creel on Bishop Gorman executed a nice rollback move and shot it as he fell, making it just a one-goal game, 6-5.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Although all the momentum was with the Gaels, the Panthers stayed poised and kept shooting. However, Bishop Gorman goalie [player_tooltip player_id='174383' first='Mason' last='Wingard'] was seeing the ball well and didn't make it easy for them, getting in front of several tough shots. Panthers goalie [player_tooltip player_id='126566' first='Jose' last='Aragon'] made split-second saves as well. The game then went to the fourth quarter, and both teams were feeling the intensity increase. He hit the jets from there before sending it by the Bishop Gorman goalie.
