Expert Analysis
Michael Campanile | Prep Lacrosse Scout
Passehl opened the day with a well-timed cut and a sweet, clip-worthy behind-the-back finish. An attackman with good size and a strong feel for the game, he can make an impact in multiple ways. There are flashes of the great John Grant Jr. in the way he dodges. Passehl isn’t slow, but he doesn’t solely rely on top speed because he doesn’t need to. Instead, he leans on his size and deception. When defenders don’t pressure him, Passehl keeps his head up and methodically reads the field, using subtle changes of speed, looks, and fakes to manipulate his matchup until he can free his hands. He did plenty of damage from behind the cage and the righty wing with Blue Star this summer, showing he can finish with either hand from all over the field.

How this athletic midfield prospect with imposing size and polished stick skills is still available is a mystery. During his remarkable sophomore campaign, Passehl posted 40 goals and 23 assists as he helped push Paul VI to the second round of the NJSIAA state tournament. Passehl’s long strides, shifty moves an ability to shoot / distribute while running full speed allow him to thrive in transition. His solid frame and non-stop motor enable Passehl to run through significant contact on those fast break opportunities. In 6v6 action, Passehl’s separation speed, agility, and refined stick skills make him a threat to initiate from anywhere in the offensive end. Passehl can dodge down the alley for rips on the run. Or he can get downhill, then slam on the breaks and roll back for a crank. College coaches should love that Passehl is a serious scoring threat from all three attack spots too. Passehl’s field vision and feathery touch make him a creative passer.

Passehl is a long, athletic, and rangy attack/middie. Combine those assets with his polished stick skills and non-stop motor, and you get a well-rounded offensive prospect who college coaches should scout immediately. This spring, Passehl posted 37 goals and 22 assists for a Paul VI (14-3) team that closed the regular season on an eleven-game winning streak. Passehl excels in transition, where his separation speed, cutback ability, and refined stick skills make him a threat to go coast to coast. He also does a fantastic job of coming out of the box, receiving an outlet pass, and then swiftly pushing the rock into the offensive end for scoring chances. Passehl can crank shots on the move or slam on the brakes and then rip. Plus, this sophomore is a willing passer who has demonstrated tremendous field vision. When Passehl runs at attack, he can provide a serious scoring punch from the wing, the high crease area, or the low spot.
