Expert Analysis
Eric Bretz | Prep Lacrosse Scout
Grainger put on a show for Summit in its 16-3 quarterfinal win vs. Morris Knolls, posting a hat trick and six assists, making it his third 9-point game this spring and tying his career high. The Washington & Lee commit leads his team in every offensive statistic, while also helping the Hilltoppers to a 17-1 record, regarded as one of the best public schools in the country this season, and earning the top seed in the North Jersey Group 3 bracket. Grainger does an exceptional job facilitating for Summit and dodges hard with his head up, to find open cutters or has the strength to edge his way to the middle for an open look. If the Hilltoppers make another run this spring, Grainger will play a big role.

The ridiculously skilled and highly decorated Grainger, an All-State and All-American pick, is committed to Division III power Washington & Lee. After his performances last Sunday, we predict that Grainger could have an immediate impact for the Generals in 2027. With his quick burst, elusive change-of-direction moves, and creative finishing skills, Grainger was unstoppable 1v1. Grainger’s ability to run through contact until he got his hands free for a rip was impressive. Grainger also displayed an incredibly powerful shot from GLE, as well as the wing. The quick release and accuracy of his shot rendered goalies helpless. Grainger flashed creative passing skills, too.

Grainger had a productive sophomore season for the Hilltoppers as he finished with 25 goals, 14 assists, and was 2nd on the team in total points (41). The 3-star righty attackmen has an aggressive style of play and brings an energy that fuels the team. He likes to dodge from X and does so with his head up at all times trying to catch the defense sleeping with a skip pass. He has good footwork and a quick change of direction when dodging and when he is able to get upfield, he doesn’t require a lot of space or a great angle at the goal to operate efficiently. He is a deadly shooter when given time and room and with his size and strength, he adds a lot of power behind a well-placed ball. He puts in a lot of effort on the rides and came up with 13 ground balls last spring. He is a dynamic playmaker for Summit and will look to help the Hilltoppers hoist yet another state championship trophy this spring.
