The combination of Bergey and Luke Mullen at NHSLS was as entertaining as ever. Against Lawrenceville, the event champions and top defense, he finished with three goals, an assist, and a couple more plays that easily could have turned into assists. Bergey’s slickness as both a scorer and feeder is off the charts. He does much of his work just above the goal line, where he has developed a strong package of moves, both over the top and underneath defenders. Going over the top, he uses his speed and underhand release to squeeze shots off even with pressure all over him. Underneath is where he really thrived at NHSLS. Because he is not an inside-roll type of dodger and can skip feeds through tight windows, he is a difficult player to slide to. The quickness and craftiness in his feeding game have also been outstanding. In June at multiple events, he was throwing underhand zips across the field, lever passes before slides arrived, mixing in BTBs, all while looking off defenders. Add in the fact that he is a pest on the ride and does goalies as dirty as possible in tight, and he is a player you have to watch.
