Ty Xanders | Prep Lacrosse Scout
Mullen has been highlighted extensively by our Prep Lacrosse scouts, both during his time as a highly productive ’27 at South Side (N.Y.) and as a noteworthy transfer as a ’28 for the Winged Beavers. So far, he’s off to a hot start and has pumped in 10 goals and three assists through four games. Against Salisbury, he got on the board twice in the first quarter to help set the tone. Never shy about shooting the ball, he’s at his best from the left-handed wing and can absolutely let it fly from a variety of release points, though he favors the low-to-high. Perfectly comfortable shooting from low angles, he did so late in the first quarter on EMO thanks to an assist from

Mullen has taken his talents to the Founder’s League and moved back to the ’28 class after helping the Cyclones to a Nassau ‘C’ title in 2025, while earning All-County honors with 55 goals and 23 assists. A crafty and opportunistic playmaker, Mullen consistently produces and can generate offense in multiple ways. He doesn’t always need the ball in his stick to be effective, yet he’s proven capable of beating his man with a move from behind GLE and scoring when he’s not occupying the high lefty wing with success. In addition, Mullen is an underrated passer who can sell a shot and regularly find teammates wide open with flair. His calm decision-making, stick skills, and high lacrosse IQ are always evident, and he should benefit from another year getting bigger, faster, and stronger, while facing top-level competition.

Luke Mullen plays with a natural scorer’s instinct and a relentless drive to get to the net. He is an extremely shifty dodger with a quick first step, operating at his best from behind the cage but showing equal comfort and effectiveness when initiating from the wing. Mullen consistently gets to dangerous spots on the field, using his change of pace and craftiness to create separation and high-quality chances. He is coming off an impressive sophomore season in which he finished fifth in points across Long Island, showcasing his ability to perform at a high level against strong competition. Now at Avon Old Farms, Mullen looks poised to make an immediate impact and generate serious noise in the Founders League this spring.

A highly talented lefty who posted 55 goals and 23 assists as a sophomore, Mullen has excellent skills paired with an aggressive and creative dodging style. His hands are one of his best attributes, as he’s able to get shots off quickly and execute multiple fakes to move goalies, burying a fake and finish as well as a beautiful low-to-high when I watched S2S. He’s an elusive scorer who demands attention from defenses when the ball is in his stick, and when he’s riding, Mullen takes pride in winning back possessions due to his effort and grit.

Posting a pair of goals while making the most of his touches, Mullen showed me a lot in the ’27 championship game. He briefly left the title game in the first quarter due to injury, came back in on EMO, and buried a sidearm shot low on his second touch upon returning to action. Mullen’s second goal was a thing of beauty and demonstrated his slickness. Following a face-off win to open the fourth quarter, he backpedaled to space on a 5v4 fast break, caught the ball loaded, and executed a silky toe drag/face dodge with his stick at his ankles. After briefly having only his right hand on his stick, Mullen got back to his left to increase his angle and finish on the doorstep. He also helped ice the game, taking on three defenders and flinging the ball (while falling) to a longpole, who then buried a goal to put S2S up two goals. Overall, Mullen has a great set of mitts and is incredibly crafty, opportunistic, and intelligent. On Saturday, he also demonstrated his ability as a feeder, tossing back-to-back assists early on against 2Way.
