Back home in his native Fairfield County, Nelson caught fire on Wednesday afternoon, scoring four of the Winged Beavers’ first five goals, in addition to the second half tallies that made it 7-7 and 11-11. Frequently matched up with an Ivy-bound shortstick, Nelson shook him and got through the teeth of the defense on multiple coaches. The 6-foot-2 middie secured the hat trick with a hesi move, going left to right, raising his stick high above his head, then firing in a low shot. On his fourth, he got back to the middle and scored on an awkward yet violent release, before getting open on his fifth off of ball movement and putting a sidearm shot high. Nelson pulled another hesi on the goal to make it 11-11, rolling back to his left. In a high-pressure environment on the road against the No. 1 team in the country, Nelson couldn’t miss and was arguably the most dominant player on the field. Although it wasn’t always pretty, it was effective, and a performance that left a lasting impression.
