Mid-September Check-In: Delaware Valley Prospect News and Notes

Below are a few news and notes regarding lacrosse prospects from Central / South New Jersey, Southeastern Pennsylvania, and Delaware. The region of the country that is otherwise known as the “Delaware Valley.”    Over the summer, Hoffman departed Shipley School and transferred to Penn Charter. That move by Hoffman means the Quakers have added an athletic and fast, two-way midfielder to their roster. At the offensive end, Hoffman has proven to be a powerful and accurate step-down shooter. He can ping corners, score off-hip, and fire crafty bouncers past opposing goalies from long range. Hoffman has also demonstrated that he can get downhill, draw the slide, and then move the ball to an open teammate. With his polished stick skills and speed, this sophomore thrives in transition too. On defense, Hoffman does a fantastic job of sprinting out of the box, locating the ball carrier, and then stopping the opposing team's unsettled opportunity. In 6v6 defense, Hoffman is a menacing on-ball SSDM who can turn an opponent multiple times. Additionally, Hoffman is a high-IQ team defender whose doubles teams and recoveries are always on point.     McCloud is a highly regarded lacrosse and football prospect who this past summer transferred from Harriton to Penn Charter. On the lacrosse field, McCloud is an athletic pole with imposing size, polished footwork, and an active stick. That impressive list of assets enables McCloud to get into ball carriers early in their dodge and stop them cold. When he is defending on-ball, McCloud can create turnovers via slaps, lifts, pokes, and can openers. As an off-ball defender, McCloud excels at putting the ball on the ground via physical slides and well-timed trail checks. McCloud also has a tremendous feel for when to come off his man and deliver a turnover-causing double team. In the clearing game, McCloud can deliver smart and precise outlet passes or leg the ball out himself.     Pyfer's outstanding efforts on the July club circuit earned him recognition here on PL as one of the biggest summer stock risers among Pennsylvania prospects. Division I college coaches must have been paying attention this summer too, as a few days ago, Pyfer committed to Mercer. Pyfer is an athletic, long, and versatile offensive prospect who can score at all three levels. The trifecta of Pyfer's quick release, accuracy, and power makes him a legitimate long-range shooting threat. Pyfer can also get downhill from up top or the wing, cook his defender, and then fire 10-to-12-yard missiles into the net. His crafty off-ball movements and filthy finishing skills allow Pyfer to convert on catch-and-dunk chances around the crease. Pyfer can also carry the ball to X, where he can use a quick burst to separate from his defender and then turn the corner for scoring opportunities around the cage.     Back in late August, I profiled Taraborelli as a prospect I believed would be busy on September 9th. That theory must have proven true because yesterday Taraborelli committed to Virginia. With that announcement, the Cavaliers landed one of the most dominant face-off specialists in the Mid-Atlantic region. Last spring, Taraborelli won 71% of his faceoffs as he helped push Salesianum to the 2026 Delaware state title. For an encore, Taraborelli won draws at a 70% clip and scored 26 goals on the 2026 summer circuit. Taraborelli is a clean pick-n-pop demon. Once he has possession, Taraborelli can use his speed and polished footwork to explode away from the dot and then sprint into the offensive end to create a scoring chance. Additionally, Taraborelli is a master at executing sweeps, jabs, or pulls that direct the ball into open space. Then his aggressive stick and positioning skills allow Taraborelli to vacuum up the GB and turn upfield. Taraborelli also has the strength and grit to drop to the turf and overpower an opponent for a win.     Winters is a former Santa Margarita Catholic (Calif.) standout who transferred to Lawrenceville School and reclassified into the 2029 graduate year. During the 2026 season, this two-way midfielder scored 17 goals in just 15 games. The combination of his ground ball skills and speed allows Winters to create fast break chances for his team and then score or distribute on the run. In 6v6 action, Winters has demonstrated that he can initiate from up top or the wing, separate from his defender and then fire a shot into the net. Off-ball, Winters catches opponents by surprise with his high IQ cuts, dives and drifts that produce clean looks. On the defensive end, Winters' smooth lateral movements, aggressive stick work and physicality make him an absolute ball hawk. When the ball carrier presents an opening, Winters will unleash a powerful stick or shoulder check that puts the ball on the ground. Winters is also a master at delivering a crowbar that puts the ball on the turf. The Lawrenceville staff will love that Winters is a plus player in the clearing game, too.
