This past spring, Yates scored 23 goals and dished out 28 assists as he helped Shady Side capture the WPIAL title and advance to the 3A state tournament quarterfinals. More recently, this lefty attack prospect tortured opponents on the summer club scene with his ability to score from the wing, around the crease and at X. On the wing, Yates used his swift release and power to cash in on catch and fire opportunities. His timely cuts, sweeps and drifts produced scoring chances around the top of the crease as well as at GLE. From X, Yates shook his initial defender with elusive change of direction moves and then turned the corner for scoring chances in close. On other dodges from X, Yates used his solid frame to bully his defender until he got to his spots for a shot. In July, Yates demonstrated that he could run at midfield too.
