On Sunday New Jersey powerhouse Don Bosco (preseason #20 nationally) traveled across the river to scrimmage Pennsylvania PAISAA stare title contender Hill School.

This preseason contest was played in a cold and steady rain, but the two teams still competed at a high level.

Don Bosco exploded out of the gate with two goals in the first three minutes of the scrimmage. The second of which was a beautiful lefty overhand runner from Georgetown signee [player_tooltip player_id='17484' first='John' last='Devir'].

But Hill shook off their slow start (down 2-0) and responded with three straight goals including a snipe coming off a dodge down the right-hand alley from Fairfield commit [player_tooltip player_id='174556' first='Adrien' last='Kosinski'] (2 goals overall).

The teams then traded a few goals back and forth before Hill established some momentum with a 6-4 lead. A chaotic play right before 2nd quarter horn produced a buzzer beater goal for Don Bosco that got the Ironmen to within one goal at halftime (6-5).

After a scoreless third quarter, Hill maintained that 6-5 lead. The start of the 4Q brought on mass substitutions by both sides as the coaches looked to get in development minutes for the underclassmen.

Below is a look at the players who impressed with their outstanding play during the Don Bosco at Hill School scrimmage.

Don Bosco:

Devir (1 goal & 1 assist unofficially) impressed with his ability to initiate in settled action. He got downhill in a flash, eluded sliding defenders and then scored or distributed while on the move. He flashed extremely polished stick skills on a left-handed finish in close while running full speed. Devir proved to be a patient ball carrier who did not settle for low percentage opportunities. His high IQ was evident when he worked in two man-man action. Devir's speed out of the box applied constant pressure on Hill's defense.

This Saint Bonaventure commit executed clean pick-n-pops all day. Those face off wins gave Don Bosco a significant possession advantage and kept the Ironmen playing downhill throughout the scrimmage. Once Lugo had the ball in his cross, he exploded away from the dot and pushed the fast break. Lugo's refined stick skills allowed him to distribute to open teammates for clean scoring chances. On the draws where action at the dot got chaotic, Lugo's physicality, aggressive stick and tenacity helped him hunt down the rock and snare the ground ball.

After a slow start, Hill's offense found its groove in the late first quarter and then proceeded to unleash a barrage of shots on Corey until halftime. But Corey stood tall in net and made a number of tough top shelf saves. He also showed incredible agility as he dropped to make several stops on difficult low shots. Corey even took a couple rockets off his face mask and never lost his composure. Additionally, Corey delivered a host of precise outlet passes that triggered transition opportunities for Don Bosco.

Hill School:

This solidly built and rangy pole did a remarkable job of defending the ball in space. Several times, Crowe pushed out near the midfield line to pick up a ball carrier and shut down a transition opportunity for Don Bosco. His speed and quick lateral movements allowed Crowe to stay glued to the ball carriers' hips as they swept across the field. Crowe caused turnovers via stick checks, pokes, and lifts. He also disrupted passing lanes with his stick. In the 2nd quarter, Crowe ate an absolute missile that left a visible mark on his leg. He demonstrated some real toughness by staying in the game after that incident.

Kastroll is a long, athletic, and solidly built pole who did a tremendous job pursuing ball carriers. His speed, smooth lateral footwork and heavy stick checks enabled Kastroll to apply constant pressure on opposing players. Kastroll also operated with a physical edge as he delivered a handful of body checks that jarred the ball loose. A couple times, Kastroll vacuumed up the resulting ground ball and then dashed up field. Kastroll showed noteworthy speed and nifty stick maneuvers on those clears. Kastroll's ability to execute slides, double teams, switches, and recoveries was impressive too

Kosinski is an incredibly athletic, fast, and shifty midfielder with unlimited upside. The only thing that was more impressive than the speed at which Kosinski flew down the field in transition and coming out of the box, was his separation burst in 6v6 action. On a number of possessions, Kosinski (2 goals) used his explosive first step to cook his initial defender and then raced into open space for a rip on net. On those possessions, Kosinski showcased that he is an accurate and powerful shooter while on the move. Plus, this Fairfield commit displayed a high IQ and excellent field vision via a few creative passes that he dished out.

On Sunday Lewis proved to be a fleet footed and gritty SSDM for the Blues. Out on the perimeter, Lewis provided a pesky on-ball presence. He did a tremendous job of getting into ball carriers early in their dodges. Lewis's ability to navigate his way over or through screens was impressive. His double teams and recoveries were on point as well. Lewis's quick burst and active stick produced a handful on GB pick ups in traffic. Once Lewis had possession, he kicked it into gear and pushed the fast break.
