It was a beautiful, sunny day in Ramsey (N.J.), where No. 21 Don Bosco Prep hosted Georgetown Prep (Md.) at Granatell Stadium. For Don Bosco, it was their first game of the season, however, for Georgetown Prep, it was the Little Hoyas' eighth game. After starting the season 2-0, Prep had lost five straight coming into this matchup. After falling 14-7 in this matchup last season, Don Bosco Prep 14-7 last season, the Ironmen came into this matchup rejuvenated, fresh off a full offseason and ready for vengeance.

The game started with the Little Hoyas having all the momentum as junior attackman [player_tooltip player_id='124010' first='Braden' last='Lutz'] opened up the scoring with a question mark dodge and finished to the near-side post to beat junior netminder [player_tooltip player_id='82243' first='Brody' last='Corey'] (Rutgers). Syracuse football commit [player_tooltip player_id='14554' first='Wyatt' last='Bowman'] cashed in two more tallies for Georgetown Prep in the first quarter to stretch the lead to 3-0. To this point, Georgetown Prep was dominating time of possession while Don Bosco looked extremely sloppy offensively, registering four unforced errors. However, with solid defense from guys like James Greenhut (Iona), David Corb (Quinnipiac), and junior [player_tooltip player_id='45464' first='Michael' last='Marino'] (Richmond), they were able to keep the Hoyas at arms length, down three after the first quarter.

The second quarter started with the Hoyas being assessed a two-minute non-releasable penalty, no face-off. The Ironmen started to knock off the rust when senior star [player_tooltip player_id='14548' first='Brady' last='Scioletti'] (Duke) found sophomore Dashiell Lane on the backside of the defense for a step-down rip. Shortly after, Scioletti got the favor returned as [player_tooltip player_id='17484' first='John' last='Devir'] (Yale) made the extra pass on the same man-up opportunity to find the Duke commit for a step-down goal of his own. Scioletti then drew a penalty on a late hit to set Don Bosco up for its third man-up goal by Loyola-bound junior Brady Kushner. Devir capped off the scoring for the half with an unassisted dodge and shot on the run with heavy pressure on him to capture their first lead of the game, making it 4-3.

Senior FOGO [player_tooltip player_id='28069' first='Scott' last='Conte'] (Delaware) started the second half with one of his 10 face-off wins of the day, taking on senior Connor Derogatis (Christopher Newport) and junior [player_tooltip player_id='23339' first='Cole' last='Reposa'] (Army) in the process. Don Bosco had two more unforced errors to start the half before Scioletti took it himself on a sweeping dodge across the middle of the field to beat freshman goalie Keith Chari, who showed a lot of ability to stand tall in cage and come up with big stops for the Little Hoyas down the stretch. GP junior midfielder Joe Perry cashed in on his dodge attempt down the alley, beating Corey stickside to cut the lead to 5-4 before Ironmen attackman Hudson Villaruel (Sacred Heart) fired back to help retake a two-goal lead for DBP with a goal on the doorstep.

Both goaltenders traded saves at each end to start the fourth quarter before Scioletti and Bowman capped off their respective hat tricks for the day, then Little Hoya junior midfielder [player_tooltip player_id='16462' first='Noah' last='Han'] cut the lead to one off a slick 1v1 dodge from X a moment later. Georgetown Prep had a chance to tie the game with under a minute to go on a man-up opportunity. Senior Brendan Gallagher (Fairfield) threw a stick fake and attempted to gain space in the middle of the field before defender David Corb came and stripped the ball away to seal the victory. Don Bosco survived a scare in their season opener, winning 7-6 over Georgetown Prep.

Up next for Don Bosco Prep (1-0) is a road matchup with Iona Prep (N.Y.), which will play its season opener against the Ironmen on Saturday. Now sitting at 2-6, Georgetown Prep will face Gonzaga (D.C.) at Georgetown University on Tuesday night.

The 5-star recruit showed exactly why he's the Ironmen's No. 1 option. Finishing with three goals and two assists, he impacted the game as a shooter, dodger, and facilitator. Always dodging with his head up, he has the perpetual confidence to pull the trigger if his hands are free with a good angle and is a smart player with a big frame and great dodging ability. He will often dodge and re-dodge the same defender, mixing up his moves to keep the opponent guessing. He's shown the capability to lead this team in past years and that's exactly what head coach Matt Lane is going to need from him this year as a senior if they're going to make another deep run.

Devir resumed his role on this team as a workhorse to start the year. On almost every offensive possession, it seemed like Devir was out on the field and dodging his tail off, drawing a slide and moving the ball with efficiency. He's a tough and gritty player who plays hard with quick feet and a smooth dodging technique and that's exactly how he scored his goal. He muscled his way into the middle of the field and used his strength to absorb contact and finish past the goaltender. He has a good burst of speed out of his dodge and does a good job of creating space from his defender to take a shot or move it. Along with Scioletti, the Yale commit will be a focal point of the Ironmen offense this season.

The Rutgers commit had a great afternoon in cage, recording 17 saves on the day. He was seeing the ball well and capitalizing off poor shots from the opponent, also showing effort on the goal line after missed shots and very active in the clearing game. Even with the offense sputtering out of the gate, Corey and the defensive unit steadied the ship and come up with some stops of their own. Corey and the defense built some momentum down the stretch, including the final defensive stand while down a man. Making transition saves, point-blank stepdown stops, and doorstep saves, he'll need to keep that rolling as they take on Iona Prep next and into the rest of the season.

Bowman was one of the bright spots for the Little Hoya offense, recording a hat trick to total half of his team's goals on the day. He is a big midfielder with great off-ball instincts, scoring all three goals coming off an assist from a cut through the middle of the defense. He has good timing on his cuts and good chemistry with his teammates for them to be able to find him consistently open in the middle. Two of his goals came on man-up opportunities where the ball was at X and the play was designed for him to catch the defense sleeping and the future Syracuse tight end was able to execute that twice with pressure applied. He'll need to continue to perform for this Prep offense to get back on track against Gonzaga.
