The Tar Heel State’s Top Players Watch List: NC’s Best

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Tar Heel State named four championship teams to conclude the 2024 season! The Cannon School 19-3 (Division I) &amp; Greensboro Day School 15-3 (Division II) were the winners in the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (Private Division I &amp; II) respectively. The North Carolina High School Athletics Association is the sanctioned public school league where teams compete in two classifications (4A) &amp; (1A/2A/3A) separately. In 2024 Green Level 22-2 won their program's first State Title in (NCHSAA 4A) as they bested Lake Norman 18-6 in an overtime classic with the score 11 to 10! Also, Lake Norman Charter 15-7 captured the State Title (NCHSAA 1A/2A/3A) defeating Orange 24-2 with complete control with a final score of 16 to 7. *The NCISAA has been competitively keeping score for almost twenty-five years starting in the year 2000. The Private League remained open until 2016 when they adopted the Division I &amp; II format. The NCHSAA first held open classification contests from 2010 through 2013 before switching to its current championship format with the two classifications (4A &amp; 1A/2A/3A) individually*. North Carolina saw a competitive season in 2024 whereas other teams such as Charlotte Catholic 22-1; Hough 15-3; Cardinal Gibbons 19-6; &amp; Providence Day 18-6 celebrated successful seasons.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>*Charlotte Country Day currently holds the most titles out of any program in North Carolina State history with 8 NCISAA Championships including (2000, 2001, 2004, 2006, &amp; 2008-2011). Cardinal Gibbons has the second most with six titles including the first two (NCHSAA 1A/2A/3A) championships in 2014 &amp; 2015 as well (NCHSAA 4A) championships in 2015, 2019, 2021, &amp; 2023. They are the only program to win State Championships in both classifications. The Charlotte Latin School has five titles in the NCISAA which is good for the third most in state history. They won their championships in 2005 &amp; then had a four-peat from 2012-2015. The Cannon School won the last three NCISAA championships as defending champions (2022-2024). Also, Christ School won three total NCISAA titles with a three-peat (2017-2019). Lake Norman Charter captured three total (NCHSAA 1A/2A/3A) championships, remaining unbeaten in the boy's lacrosse State Championship games with a three-peat (2022-2024). Cape Fear Academy holds three Championship titles at the NCISAA Division II level (2017, 2022, &amp; 2023).</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Providence Day (2007, 2021) &amp; Durham Academy (2022, 2023) each have two NCISAA titles a piece. Lake Norman was the third program to win a sanctioned NCHSAA championship in the 2012 open classification with another coming in 2018 at the (NCHSAA 4A) level. Apex was the fourth program to win a sanctioned NCHSAA championship in 2013 with the last open championship. They won two titles total including an (NCHSAA 4A) title in 2015. Middle Creek is another program with two State Championships (2017 &amp; 2022) both at the (NCHSAA 4A) classification level. Marvin Ridge won two State Championships at the (NCHSAA 1A/2A/3A) level in 2016 &amp; 2021 but they now play in the (NCHSAA 4A) class. Forsyth Country Day (2016, 2021) &amp; Southlake Christian Academy (2018, 2019) each have two NCISAA Division II championships alike.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Ravenscroft School won their lone NCISAA (Division I) championship in 2016 while Greensboro Day School achieved the NCISAA (Division II) championship in 2024 &amp; will defend their title this upcoming spring! Myers Park won their lone State Championship in the first-ever NCHSAA open division in 2010; now they compete in the (NCHSAA 4A) classification. Northwest Guildford won the second-ever open NCHSAA State Championship in 2011 &amp; is now competing at the (NCHSAA 4A) level. Charlotte Catholic won their only title in 2014 as the first team to win at the (NCHSAA 4A) classification. He continued his excellent play as a junior helping the Wildcats to a runner-up State Championship appearance. He totaled 46 points (33 goals &amp; 13 assists) also picking up 14 ground balls. DeBerardinis is a consistent shooter who is experiencing growth throughout his play. He is on the field shooting, working on his game, &amp; helping others. A consensus 3-star prospect. John was credited with 203 saves (51.6%), 19 ground balls, &amp; 4 takeaways in 21 games played (2022). He collected 177 saves (55.6%), 14 groundballs, &amp; 3 takeaways as a sophomore (2023). He has a fluid toe drag move where he capitalizes off of a "one more". Muray gets to his spots, fires with confidence, &amp; shows quality shooting form. He is accurate with good wrist control showcased by deceptive inside finishing! Harrison gets back on defense &amp; has some (CT+GB) combo ability between the lines. He is about business on the field whether he be plucking a corner or finding a skip lane to assist a teammate with a slick underhand toss. Murray is a physical two-way midfielder with sharp skills playing at a competitive pace. He impressed as a sophomore with a 72.3% winning rate (188/260) with 90 groundballs collected in 2023. Sherwood is lightning-quick with great technique. He goes forward more often than not because he beats you with celerity. Carter is accustomed to success in a position that is under immense pressure. He has risen to every occasion with the challenges of coaches trying to line up someone bigger, stronger, or a pole. Sherwood does not lose the battle &amp; is someone you can rely on game in game out. He has been named All-Conference three times &amp; Conference MVP most recently. Carter paces the Greenies with possession &amp; shows good handles in the clear. He can dodge through the defense to score &amp; tippy-toe away from trouble. Luke was selected 1st Team All-State (NCLCA 1A/2A/3A) in addition to being named a player of the year finalist in 2023. He scored 118 points (95 goals, 23 assists), 77 groundballs, &amp; 17 takeaways as a sophomore. Fenderson was named Greater Charlotte Lacrosse's 2023 Rising Star of the Year! He puts the team on his shoulders &amp; hardly comes out of the game. Luke has been attacking since freshman year when he put up 84 points (56 goals, 28 assists), &amp; 33 groundballs. He is a feisty lefty who sits patiently with his stick in the ball carrier's gut. Murphy will go stride for stride &amp; does a good job anticipating any change of direction back to a ruling righty dodge. He gets physical on the ball in certain contact zones which allows him to slapcheck the ball free &amp; make a play for his team. Mac causes turnovers with his ability to win an individual assignment &amp; also be an effective slide guy away from the ball. He is a legit defender who will deny rollbacks, dig in when he is on the hash &amp; fight for topside positioning on an island. Murphy could shine more in a prestigious program in the future.
