On a cool Wednesday night at Marshall Stadium in the heart of St. Matthews, the host Trinity Shamrocks fought off a strong comeback from archrival St. Xavier to earn a 14-13 win in double overtime. Senior Noah McQuillen scored the game-winner for the Rocks off a feed from Logan Bryant Logan Bryant 5'11" | M Trinity | 2025 KY , a Fairfield commit.
Detroit Mercy-bound Canton Lanham Canton Lanham 5'9" | FO Trinity | 2024 KY led a faceoff duo along with Braden Antle that helped the Rocks dominate the dot most of the night. However, turnovers and mistakes in the clearing game gave the Tigers something to pounce on and they would take full advantage. Trinity led 8-4 at the half, but a five-goal third quarter from St. Xavier pulled the Tigers within one at 10-9 heading into the final frame. With three seconds remaining in regulation, the Tigers forced overtime off a Davis Mayer tally.
The win sends the Shamrocks into spring break on a high note. It also gives Trinity head coach Pete Schroder his first win over first-year St. Xavier head coach Kevin Doherty.
Trinity heads into a week off for spring break with a 9-1 record. St. Xavier drops to 4-3 on the year and has a big road stretch ahed of them over the next 11 days with road contests versus Montgomery Bell (Tenn.), North Allegheny (Pa.), and Culver (Ind.).
Here is a look at some standouts from Wednesday’s night rivalry contest:
Coming into the spring, the Fairfield commit was expected to be a leader for the Shamrocks’ offense. So far, Bryant has done nothing but deliver. While not always the biggest, strongest, or quickest on the field, Bryant possesses a skillset and level of finesse that allows him to get his hands free for looks nearly anywhere on the field. On Wednesday night, he consistently won his matchup versus St. X senior defenseman Carter Townsend. The most confident player for the Rocks from start to finish, Bryant led his team with four goals. He also assisted on the game-winner in double overtime. He helped set the tone early for the Rocks early on, scoring a natural hat trick to end the first frame. Showcasing his outside shooting, Bryant’s best stroke of the night might’ve been a miss, as he beat his man on a roll dodge down the left alley before just shaving the post in the first overtime period.

The Jacksonville-bound LSM drew the matchup of St. Xavier’s Thomas Andriole Thomas Andriole 6’4″ | 195 lbs | M St. Xavier | 2025 KY on Wednesday night. Andriole is St. Xavier’s most physically gifted and imposing offensive weapon. He scored the Tigers’ first goal of the day by taking advantage of a shortstick matchup, however, Alexander and the Trinity defense would go on to hold him scoreless the rest of the night.
Alexander showcased his on-ball defensive skills, staying in front of his man and constantly turning him back. Alexander showed good tendencies supporting on defense while also showcasing his ability to get ground balls and push the issue. That was especially so on a night when Trinity didn’t look too comfortable clearing.

On Wednesday night, Marks often found himself being the initiator as the Tigers run a lot of their offense through the midfield. A dual-sport athlete who also plays wide receiver in football, Marks possesses quite a bit of speed that he can use to his advantage as a dodger. Marks’ two goals for St. Xavier were crucial in helping their second half comeback effort. He pulled the Tigers within one late in the third quarter before tying things at 12 all with 2:35 remaining in regulation.

The senior midfielder showcases a good amount of quickness and shooting range within his style of play and skillset. West continued a strong start to his season on Wednesday night, as he recorded a hat trick against the Tigers. All three of his scores came similarly, with West beating his man and being able to get time and room for the score. Often playing both ways, West was just as impressive with his hustle and ability as a defender on the other end of the field. His second score of the day might’ve been his most impactful, as he triggered the Tigers’ five-goal third quarter run that helped them pull back into the game.
