’27 NESCAC Commits That Went Under the Radar

The NESCAC is one of the most competitive conferences in college lacrosse. It's also one of the top spots for recruits who are looking for a combination of high academics and top-tier academics across the nation. Obviously a high academic achiever (Williams is, depending on whom you ask, the most difficult school to get into in the country), Kavet's lacrosse skill set is built on catch-and-go quickness and the ability to get to the front of the cage and finish. He has the drive that you need when you're under 5' 9'', but he plays like he's six-foot-five. While the Vermont native effectively gets to stay in the Green Mountain State, he is going into his senior year at St. Paul's as a starting goalie - something he wasn't when he committed to Vermont over a year ago. As the primary shot stopper for the Pelicans last season, Williams was a team captain and finished the season as a Lakes Region All-Star. He gets down on the ball so well that teams had to try and make him drop or attack with closer shots to get balls past him. Middlebury has a super-underrated shotstopper heading their way next year. His time with Laxachusetts really developed his ability to contribute to an ISL offense with consistency, and that is a huge part of how he became a two-way ace for the Arrows. His game is very reminiscent of another ISL product that is having success at Bowdoin, former Govs middie Huck Trafton. It has nothing to do with his ability - if anything, I'm shocked that a Patriot League team didn't snap him up in the fall - but it was all about timing. When Tardie committed to Trinity, the Bantams did not even have a head coach. Since then, former VMI head coach Taylor Mendoza has taken over, and when you add in other Trinity commits like Sebs goalie Patrick Cardone, Dexter midfielder Cam Daley, and Rivers attackman Keaton Gaynor, you've got some serious talent in this class. Tardie's best attribute is his ability to morph from on-ball terror to offensive weapon in the same possession. I have watched Croom in the Lake Placid tournament for the last few summers, and I've watched him adapt to do different things at each event. He's one of the best riding attackmen that I think I've ever coached; he's wildly tenacious in his pursuit of the ball. Croom can also dodge with serious deception and knows how to wiggle free of doubles. I have no idea where Tufts head coach Casey D'Annolfo and his staff are going to put him, but one of the reasons they went after him is that he is so versatile. A player who has no true position was recruited by a D-3 championship program.
