Compared to last year's group, the 2028 goalie class is developing real depth. Even if a Division I coach misses on one of the top names, there are still plenty of options in this class who should make programs feel good about where they land.

Goalies are not always easy to evaluate on the club circuit, especially when defenses are grasping for air, leaving goalies exposed late in the day. That is why playoff games matter so much, and why events like NHSLS can be especially helpful, since goalies are playing within familiar systems and around the same teammates they have in the spring. Best in Class, Showtime, and Main Stage also provided evaluators with strong settings, as split halves and spaced-out games kept goalies fresher and showcased their ability across multiple looks. Add in the fact that they get to work with guys like Matt Gill from Goaliesmith, and it's a bonus.

There is still time for movement, but a number of 2028 goalies have already earned serious consideration. [player_tooltip player_id='165876' first='Weston' last='Guerra'], [player_tooltip player_id='166531' first='Dylan' last='Choi'], [player_tooltip player_id='142780' first='Noah' last='Benney'], [player_tooltip player_id='173247' first='Ben' last='Pensy'], [player_tooltip player_id='166793' first='Hayden' last='Myslinski'], [player_tooltip player_id='125548' first='Mac' last='Privateer'], [player_tooltip player_id='172185' first='Colton' last='O'Connell'], [player_tooltip player_id='141708' first='Grant' last='Rhyde'], [player_tooltip player_id='143759' first='Finn' last='Campbell'], [player_tooltip player_id='173249' first='Liam' last='Brown'], and [player_tooltip player_id='166647' first='Carson' last='Hewitt'] are among the goalies I have covered. Prep Lacrosse has also featured [player_tooltip player_id='173959' first='Keith' last='Chari'], [player_tooltip player_id='166677' first='Tucker' last='Patrick-White'], [player_tooltip player_id='158190' first='Mac' last='Brooker'], [player_tooltip player_id='169025' first='Logan' last='Gordon'], [player_tooltip player_id='171343' first='Reese' last='Tunney'], and [player_tooltip player_id='172976' first='Evan' last='Adams']. [player_tooltip player_id='123643' first='Lucas' last='Ward'] deserves a separate shoutout for the two goalie goals I saw him score at NAL this past weekend, and I will include Luke Robinson in an upcoming piece after his performance at the Iron Bowl.

Here are five new goalie names adding to an already deep top tier after strong June showings:

An absolute tower at 6-foot-6, Hank Kalafatis plays with the kind of wide base that naturally takes up a ton of the cage. He does not need much movement to get from pipe to pipe, which leaves very little net for scorers to work with. What makes the 220-pound Washington native especially impressive is how well he moves for someone his size. He has elite hand and foot speed to make saves all over the cage, and he can bait shooters high in tight before exploding to the spot with the quickness to beat them there. He will give up some rebounds because of how willing he is to throw his body around, but when the ball is in his stick, he throws a beautiful long ball.

I was very impressed with Zeigler's game at the NHSLS Red Session. Against a very talented Loomis Chaffee offense, he made seven saves while allowing five goals while I watched. Those stops came in a variety of ways, with saves off his foot, up high, low, and on the doorstep. Even on some of the shots that beat him, he was right there and often got a piece of the ball before it went in. His presence in the cage is calming, both in the way he moves and in the upright, comfortable stance he plays from. When shots come in, he does not waste movement and gets to the ball well, especially on stick-side high and low looks. He also handles the ball extremely well, navigating pressure, zipping passes through tight windows, and dropping lobs over riding attackmen.

Maxwell and his sweatpants became a talking point for Quint Kessenich and Paul Carcaterra during the Naptown championship this past week. He deserves a ton of credit for the Red Hots' championship run, as he was the only goalie on the roster through seven games in three days. He is a gamer-type goalie with explosive athleticism, especially on pipe-to-pipe saves. While he plays with a higher arc at times and is not always the most fundamentally sound, his athleticism and stick work are clear pluses. He gets to end lines ahead of attackmen, has some moves to pull under pressure, and does a great job either moving it quickly or using fakes until the right outlet appears.

Colclasure has been one of the more consistent goalies I have seen this summer. He is a steady presence in the cage and makes saves all over the cage. I would classify him more as a “flopper,” but he has the hand speed to still shoot his hands high on bouncers or deceptive shots when he falls. He catches a lot of balls and moves through the cage fundamentally sound. He may not have the flashiest stick, but he gets the job done and rarely puts himself in trouble with turnovers.

Luke Mills is one of the goalies I have not heard much about in conversation, but he deserves a ton of credit for serving as True IL's lone goalie through nine games in four days between NAL and Naptown. He was making the same type of saves on day one of NAL that he was still making in the heat on day four at Naptown. A lot of his best stops came five-hole and off the stick-side hip, which was impressive given the volume he faced. I also liked his willingness to come out and get groundballs, but the part of his game that stood out most was his outlet passing. He consistently dropped balls in the bucket with touch and hit midfielders in stride.
