On Saturday, La Salle College High School, the No. 1 ranked 3A team in Pennsylvania, traveled up the Turnpike for a matinee matchup with Don Bosco Prep, the No. 2 ranked team in New Jersey.

For the recap of this tightly contested affair, we are going to skip to the fourth quarter. With just over two minutes remaining in the final stanza, La Salle was clinging to a 9-7 advantage. That's when Don Bosco senior Hudson Villaruel caught a pass on the high crease, eluded crashing defenders with a turn back to the middle of the field and then fired a low shot into the net.

Don Bosco's William Lugo won the ensuing face off to create a make it, take it possession. After a timeout, Bosco's Brady Kushner caught a pass at GLE, dashed to the front of the net and then slipped home a low lefty shot to tie the game at 9-9.

[player_tooltip player_id='143407' first='Rocco' last='Davis'] (Drexel commit) secured the next face off for La Salle and the Explorers immediately called a timeout with 1:25 remaining on the clock. Coming out of that timeout, La Salle spun the ball around the perimeter. Several passes and a near turnover later, [player_tooltip player_id='171424' first='Will' last='Trymbiski'] made a cut down the middle of the field, received a nice feed from [player_tooltip player_id='177377' first='Mason' last='Smith'], took two quick steps, and then ripped a left hander into the net. Trymbiski's game winner came with forty seconds left in the contest.

Below is a review of six prospects who impressed during the La Salle at Don Bosco game earlier today.

Don Bosco

This highly decorated senior attack lived up to the hype on Saturday. Kushner (Loyola commit) registered 3 goals and 1 assist against a stout La Salle defense that is filled with D1 prospects. His most impressive goal of the afternoon came when Kushner speed dodged from X and blew past his defender. As Kushner crossed GLE, he snapped off a low lefty shot for a goal. Kushner's quick burst and filthy stick skills presented matchup issues for La Salle all afternoon. The Loyola coaching staff is going love the offensive IQ and field awareness that Kushner displayed in this game.

The two items that popped about Villaruel were his size and off ball skills. Villaruel appeared taller than his listed height of six feet and owns a solid frame. He scored two huge goals in the fourth quarter for Bosco. Both goals were a result of crafty off-ball movements. On his first goal, the ball was behind the net to the goalie's left. From the high crease, Villaruel made a quick move towards the ball, hauled in a feed from Brady Kushner and then swiftly deposited the ball into the net. Villaruel's second tally came after he drifted into open space in the high crease, caught a pass, eluded crashing defenders with a hook turn to the middle of the field and then fired a low shot into the net. Additionally, Villaruel (Sacred Heart commit) was a plus player on Bosco's rides.

La Salle

Malone's trifecta of size (6'2”), speed and elusive stick maneuvers made him difficult to defend on Saturday. This Duke signee registered two goals and an assist during La Salle's defeat of Don Bosco. His first goal was a result of a smooth hitch move that froze the initial defender for a split second. Malone then raced down the right alley and placed a shot over the goalie's shoulder and into the net. On his second goal, Malone hauled in a clearing pass at midfield and then exploded into the offensive end. He raced through the entire Bosco defense before unleashing a rocket into the net. In this game Malone also demonstrated that he could hustle back at play SSDM for a stretch.

Earlier this week, Trymbiski was named the MVP of the Philadelphia Catholic League and on Saturday his play lived up to that lofty award. This Hofstra commit filled the role of hero for La Salle as he notched the game winner with just forty ticks left on the clock. On that game winning play, Trymbiski (1G & 2A) drifted from the right hash to the middle of the field, made a tough catch on a high pass, pushed to the net for a couple steps and then lefty cranked the ball into the goal from 12 yards out. Trymbisksi received extra attention from Bosco's defense all day. He did a fantastic job of moving the ball to the open man and not taking ill-advised shots. His also displayed excellent field awareness and a high IQ on several other off-ball cuts and dives.

Smith is a long andsolidly built (200 lbs.) offensive prospect who displayed polished stick skills during La Salle's big win. This 2028 started at attack for the Explorers and recorded a goal as well as an assist. Smith's assist came on the game winning goal where he delivered a timely dime from the wing to Trymbiski as his fellow attackman came across the middle of the field. Just before he delivered that assist, Smith saved La Salle from a horrible turnover by winning a physical ground ball battle and then carrying the ball to open space. One other item that popped about Smith was his poise. Even though he is only a sophomore, Smith never allowed Bosco's intense on-ball pressure to speed him up.

The multi-skilled Van Bastelaar posted a huge effort for La Salle in this victory. This Notre Dame commit registered a hat trick while he also quarterbacked La Salle's offense. On his first goal, Van Bastelaar initiated from up top, blew past the initial defender, got down the left alley and ripped a lefty shot for a goal. Van Bastelaar also scored two impressive catch and snipe goals from 10 yards out. One of those rips was with his left hand and the other with his right. His ability to find and sit down in open space was evident on both goals. Malone's quick release and precise aim left Bosco's goalie with zero chance to stop those shots.
