Five New 2028 Midfielders Who Popped at IMLCA

Each of these midfielders has the potential to make an impact at the next level:    Brody is carving out a name for himself this summer after a spring where he posted 49 goals and 33 assists. Although he fits well as an attackman, he looks more like a midfielder at the next level because of how well he uses both hands and how comfortable he is dodging from up top. His top-end speed jumps out, but defenders really struggle with the second part of his dodge, when he leans on swims and change-of-direction moves. It might sound like an elementary comparison, but his shot does have some Paul Rabil to it. He leans on similar release points and loves to mix in jump shots with both hands.   He can score in plenty of ways besides just beating his man. His step-down shooting is a real weapon, especially when he layers in hitches to shoot around defenders, and his off-ball movement constantly puts him in spots to finish with a quick release or a fake-and-finish on the crease. He also finds ways to get the ball back by hustling and reaching into passing lanes on the ride. Where he ends up at the next level is one of the more intriguing recruitments to follow—especially now that his uncle has signed on as the head coach at Le Moyne.     Crouch feels like a natural fit for Western Reserve next spring. He recently chose to transfer and reclass after getting banged up last summer and missing a chunk of his spring, but the talent is obvious. The two things that jump out right away are how well he feeds and how comfortable he is with both hands. He sees through defenses, threads passes into tight spots, and loves to look off his feeds to freeze defenders, to the point where it seems second nature to him. Though he is listed as a righty, he was scoring plenty with his left at IMLCA, often with a sidearm release. On film, he has shown he can dodge from both wings, either side up top, and from X, and that kind of versatility and ability to keep defenders honest makes him tough to game-plan for.     McCann is one of the easiest players for an evaluator to circle right away because of his size. It also does not take long to see the Sergio Perkovic comp, with him wearing No. 16 in a shiny gold helmet and playing with the same playing style. He is a midfielder who is not afraid to run through defenders to uncork an overhand rip. When he is not trying to run someone over, he does a nice job getting into his matchup to free his hands, whether he is sweeping to the middle or driving down the alley.   Off the ball, he is constantly putting his stick up and looking to stretch the defense as a step-down option. He loves to pound the ball into the earth with his overhand shot, which makes reads a little tougher on goalies.     Murray might not look the part at first glance at 5-foot-8, 150 pounds, but his production has been obvious since the fall when I first saw him at NAL. In the spring, he put up 66 goals and 23 assists, and that carried over into the summer at the IMLCA Players Summit. He is a slippery, shifty lefty who consistently gets to the shots he wants, whether that is off the dodge or through his off-ball movement. On that lefty wing, he attacks approaches well, using hard jabs over the top for stop-and-pop looks, sweeping to the middle, and occasionally hitting under moves that get him right to the doorstep. I also liked the subtle hesitation moves he showed at IMLCA, which made it even easier for him to get to the middle. Off the ball, he looks for those same types of cuts through the middle and does an excellent job catching and releasing in one motion, which makes life tough on goalies.     When I sat down to watch the Blazers, Roszkowski rang two almost back-to-back shots off the pipe that immediately got my attention. He has a big windup and puts real velocity on the ball, both on the run and with his feet set, which lets him stretch a defense. He made things happen right-handed, whether he was sweeping across the middle or getting down the alley, and he drew a lot of defensive attention because of it. I love how willing he was to get to the middle and move it under pressure, kicking the ball out to open teammates instead of forcing shots. On the defensive end, he held his own and has some good potential there as well.
