These are players who may not jump off the page at first glance, but the more you watch them, the more they stand out. That sequence is a pretty good snapshot of his game. He's all over the field, ending possessions on one end and being a threat on the other. His spring tape is loaded with pressure in 1v1 matchups that usually end with a takeaway check. A former 2027 at Columbus Academy (Ohio), his strength and confidence really stand out. In transition, he is not just hunting step-downs like most defenders. That says a lot about a player. Dowd does not have to rely on the extra 30 inches to be effective. Although his feet are not the quickest on the field, he is fundamental in his approach and has the strength to knock dodgers off their line. No matter the stick in his hand, his motor never changed. He was hustling to ground balls off the wings on faceoffs and running to get involved in transition. When he picked up his pole, he used it well to disrupt dodgers, and he handled the ball nicely on the clear. He is a hustler all over the field and plays with aggression in every phase. One of the first things you notice about him on defense is how active he is with his stick. He is constantly extending out, swinging his stick, and getting into ball carriers. His footwork is strong enough to keep him in position, and he is savvy enough to land checks and recover if he does lose a step. He may not be the flashiest mover, but he has a clear impact on the game. He lands sneaky checks in 1v1s, scoops tough ground balls, and when he slides, possessions usually end. One of the most impressive parts of his game is his stickwork. He stays composed under pressure over the midline, even when opponents lock off to test him, and he stays composed to find an attackman. He showed a steady two-way presence in the spring and has been one of Hilltop's main SSDMs this summer alongside Pierce Brille. Hilltop's defense supports its short sticks well, and he has needed help at times, but for the most part, Got has held his own and then some. He may not wow you with his footwork, but he gets his body into dodgers and sneaks in checks that ball carriers do not often see coming. In the slide package, he knows when to collapse and create plays when the risk is worth it. He has picked up a lot of first-time ground balls this summer and does not try to do too much in transition, even though his spring tape suggests he could, because he moves well with the ball and has a strong shot.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block -->
