I'm a little biased, but if you're a college coach still working to fill out your 2027 class, Maryland remains as good a place as any to start. We've highlighted plenty of names throughout the fall and summer who are still available, and players like [player_tooltip player_id='125915' first='Declan' last='Vaughan'], [player_tooltip player_id='121430' first='Brendan' last='James'], [player_tooltip player_id='141955' first='Cade' last='Marechek'], [player_tooltip player_id='160395' first='Ty' last='Rizzuto'], and [player_tooltip player_id='165896' first='Nick' last='Neavin'] would be near the top of my board. In Part I of my Maryland Uncommitted series, I'm digging into a group that hasn't been talked about as much—but absolutely deserves more attention.

[player_tooltip player_id='129909' first='Carson' last='Spitz'] is one of the top uncommitted midfielders in Maryland who still feels a little under the radar with college coaches. With his size, skill, and ability to take over stretches of a game, the ceiling is high. This fall, he has shown he can fill several different roles, and it starts with his dodging. Spitz can create his own look in a lot of ways—leaning into defenders and getting physical, changing direction with splits, swims, and roll dodges, and then going to his nastiest move: the rocker. He beats short sticks so consistently that he can almost hold them hostage, probing the defense and forcing them to show their hand. He'll make that subtle first move just to see how the slide package is going to react, then he's off—either getting to a shot, shopping for a teammate, or drawing slides to get the defense moving. Because he processes quickly, reads rotations, and can shoot on the run, he plays at whatever pace he wants and still finds ways to carve defenses up.

McAndrew is an athletic midfield prospect with legitimate two-way upside, and his offensive game is what pops first. He's a dynamic dodger who plays with varied tempo and a real feel for getting to advantageous spots on the field. He can turn the corner down the alley, but he does a lot of his damage with his slide/shuffle and S-dodges in particular—where defenders tend to lose him because of how calm and controlled he stays through contact and traffic. He adds another layer with his ability to change postures, throw in hitches, and finish on the run with either hand, which makes him difficult to predict. At NHSLS, he was an absolute menace off-ball. He's excellent as a mirror and as an inside presence around the crease, getting his hands free quickly and punishing lapses with a fast release.

Beyond the scoring package, his athleticism translates across phases. He can help on the wing at the faceoff X, hold his own in 1v1 matchups, and serve as a one-man clear when needed. McAndrew should be firmly on college coaches' radar, and he's the type who could take a noticeable jump as an upperclassman at Georgetown Prep.

Althouse is one of the top uncommitted Maryland public school prospects, and while he's listed as a FOGO, he's anything but a typical faceoff-only specialist. Early in his career, he proved he can impact the game as an offensive player too, scoring 30 goals as a freshman attackman while a senior handled most of the draws. That background shows up every time he touches the ball—teams can't treat him like a “FOGO” guy because he's a legitimate scoring threat.

He dominated his Montgomery County slate, winning 67% at the stripe and earning First Team All–MCLCA honors. He's explosive to the whistle and does a great job generating clean, forward wins that immediately create transition chances. When battles get scrappy, he has excellent awareness to move the ball in the direction of his wide-open wings. With his size, athleticism, quick hands, and finishing ability, Althouse makes a high-upside Maryland prospect whose value extends beyond the faceoff X.

Leo Cylc made his biggest statement this fall with the way he plays away from the ball. His off-ball stance and positioning are advanced, and he pairs that with sharp instincts and timely slide decisions. At the Terp Classic, he consistently took smart angles on his approaches and turned a few of those reps into forced turnovers. On the ball, he has the foot speed to stay attached to straight-line dodgers and does a nice job dictating terms—closing space early and steering carriers into predictable lanes. That matters for the unit, because when the defense is forced to slide, everyone knows where the dodger is being funneled.

Where Cylc really separates himself is in squeeze-and-double situations, a translatable next-level trait. When a pole comes to him, he applies pressure on his side of the double and makes life uncomfortable, often leading to rushed decisions or turnovers. And when he does win the ball back, he's composed: makes the simple play in the clear and has enough burst to run by an attackman if he needs to turn defense into transition.

Tees is one of Maryland's top uncommitted faceoff specialists, but his path to the spotlight isn't the cleanest with Notre Dame commit [player_tooltip player_id='20157' first='Ciaran' last='Sweeney'] also in the mix. A rare left-handed FOGO, which may keep college coaches cautious—but the skill set is real.

He's on the smaller side, yet it actually works in his favor at the stripe. Tees is compact, low to the ground, and built to win the clamp. He's not a one-move guy either. When he's winning it clean, he shows a balanced exit package—comfortable pushing it forward or popping it behind. When battles are not so clean, he can scoop the ball with pressure on him and has some crafty checks up his sleeve to get the ball back from opposing fogos. Tees turns into a problem in the open field. He has a natural feel for avoiding checks and getting to space—more like a running back finding daylight than a typical faceoff-only specialist.
