Standout Performers From Victory Fall Classic, Part I

This past weekend Boland proved he could blow past the initial defender and then ping corners or unleash bouncers on the run. He also excelled at receiving a clearing pass and then racing downfield to create an odd man scoring opportunity. His field vision and smooth stick skills produced several nice assists on those fast breaks. Boland also flashed a creative scoring side as he whipped two BTBs into the net. During Sunday's action on the lacrosse field, Clevenger proved to be a highly skilled, two-way midfielder. Clevenger plays SSDM for Loyola and he definitely excelled in that role on Sunday. However, over the weekend, it was his offensive skills that really caught our eye. Clevenger repeatedly initiated from up top, got downhill in a hurry, and then navigated his way through opposing defenders for scoring opportunities in close. His ability to finish on the doorstep with either hand was impressive. Clevenger also attacked the net from the up top or the wing and then slammed on the breaks for a rip from 10-12 yards out. In addition to his size, over the weekend Fleeger also displayed good speed, solid stick skills and the ability to play close defense or LSM. Fleeger caused turnovers by taking the body and via heavy stick checks. When he was defending 1v1, Fleeger was a menacing on ball presence thanks to his smooth lateral movements and ability to stay on a ball carrier's hands. His high IQ, timely slides and communication skills made Fleeger a plus team defender too. Still, the skill set that really popped about Fleeger was his elite ground ball skills. Nascimento did a fantastic job of getting into ball carriers early in their dodge and using his physicality to knock them off their intended path. He also pursued offensive players in space and applied constant pressure via heavy stick checks, pokes, and lifts. Once the ball was on the ground, Nascimento was able to hold off opposing players with box outs until he could secure possession. Nascimento smartly executed slides and double teams that produced turnovers too. This fast and elusive midfielder got downhill in a flash to create shooting opportunities for himself or to distribute to open teammates. While he was on the move, Zimmerman proved to be a patient dodger who waited for high percentage scoring opportunities to develop and then delivered a creative dime to an open teammate. When he operated off ball, Zimmerman cut and drifted into open space for clean looks. His quick release and accurate shooting skills really popped on a handful of sidearm catch and rips. Zimmerman also showed he knows how to effectively execute two-man game action. As a bonus to his offensive skills, on a couple of occasions Zimmerman hustled back and played SSDM at a respectable level. &nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block -->
