Continuing to play attack, Sturtevant shot the heck out of the ball from the right-handed wing — when he gets his hands free, it ends up in the back of the net more often than not. He has a tremendous knack for getting his in any scenario and thrives in the two-man game. He's dynamic with his release points, keeping netminders on their toes. Sturtevant may not blow by anybody, however, he's plenty capable as a dodger and frequently gets underneath of defenses. He posted two or more goals in several games, including in a tight semifinal battle with Malvern Prep. Cracking the Top 50 last year, Sturtevant is sure to climb in the next edition of the 2026 rankings.

Underestimate Privateer for his size at your own peril. A gritty middie from the Buffalo area, Privateer is a fearless and hard-charging dodger who had little trouble getting to the rack. Darting through defenses, running through stick checks, and bouncing off of defenders, Privateer plays with a ton of heart and goes a million miles an hour. Watching Choate for a few games, I was struck by how consistently he put pressure on opposing defenses, as well as his yeoman's work when he was back on defense. Another '26 who had a brilliant junior season, Privateer is one of the headliners of a really strong Dartmouth class and is set to skyrocket upward in the next edition of the rankings.

You'd be hard-pressed to find many '26 middies that separate with such ease as Orcutt does. Also a talented wide receiver on the gridiron, Orcutt is a highly athletic dodger who wasn't exactly shy about going to the rack and getting shots off at NHSLS. In an evenly contested battle to start the day, he created a number of scoring opportunities for both himself and his teammates. Orcutt's shot on the run has shown consistent improvement, and he's a threat with either hand. He'll need to dial in his shot selection, but given how many looks he creates with his athleticism, I'm sure that's something that the Georgetown staff will be fine with working on once he arrives on campus.

Recent '26 Commits

Committing to Tufts on July 2, this crafty left-handed attackman had a stellar NHSLS campaign, most notably netting a hat trick against St. John's. In what was likely a sign of things to come following the graduation of QB Stu Gates (Dartmouth), Haan had the ball in his stick a lot more than he did in the spring, though he didn't necessarily need it to find success. Haan got up the hash, got back to the middle of the field, and scored a high-to-low offering off the catch. An exceptionally skilled and accurate shooter, he showed the propensity to feast on subpar approaches and slip through the cracks of ball-watching defenses.

It didn't take long for Swan to catch my eye. Fresh off a breakthrough junior season in which he nabbed All-League honors, Swan was one of the more impactful defensive midfielders I saw at the event. A relentless competitor who does the little things at a high level, Swan routinely gave bigger midfielders trouble by initiating contact, taking away their strong hand, and preventing rollbacks. He seemed to have an excellent command of Choate's slide packages and never slipped off-ball, all while doing a lot of good work off the ground and in the clear. It felt like his team fed off of his big plays, whether that was a hard-nosed groundball in the fourth quarter or Swan putting an opposing dodger in a seatbelt. A week or two after the event, Swan announced his commitment to defending Patriot League champion Colgate.

Riely's flashes as a sophomore on a stacked Malvern team earned him a spot deep in the Top 100. Almost a year later, Riely has turned into one of the more improved midfielders in the class. A two-way threat who took on more and more defensive reps as the year went on (in addition to his offensive runs), Riely is built Philly tough and incredibly athletic, able to run all day and make an impact on both ends. At NHSLS, he gobbled up key groundballs, executed some punt return clears and chipped in offensively. Having flipped from Cornell to Notre Dame earlier this week, Riely gives the Fighting Irish another horse in their seemingly never-ending stable. At the next level, it's easy to envision him in a defensive midfield role, chugging down the field in transition and making things happen.

Standout '27s

Expect Morozov to be at or near the top of the list at the shortstick defensive midfield position for a lot of top-flight Division I programs. After helping the Cardinals to a MIAA championship in the spring, the two-sport standout put on a show at NHSLS and was named All-Tournament after an outstanding two days. He made a living showing his physicality: at one point, Morozov put opposing dodgers on the ground twice on one possession. He clearly embraces his role and plays with an ever-present edge, routinely putting dodging middies in a seatbelt to the point that offenses look to avoid going at him. Quite frankly, I'm not sure I saw him get beat once. Morozov is said to have two-sport interest from at least one service academy, though his phone is bound to be busy come September.

On a SHP roster that was full to the brim with '25 and '26 talent this season, playing time was hard to come by for underclassmen on the offensive end, so we didn't see much of Sabel, whose brother, Nolan, starred for the Pirates. That being said, if Derek's time at NHSLS served as any indication, he's bound to seize a sizable role as a junior. The 5'9, 165-pound lefty has fantastic burst and shiftiness, constantly making things happen when he put his foot in the ground and got his hands free. He was productive when sweeping or rolling back to his right, but also demonstrated the ability to get quality shots on cage when darting through traffic. Between his athleticism, IQ, and big-time shot, there's a lot to like about Sabel's skill set.

Douglas, who has an offensive skill set that allows him to excel both below and above the goal line, looked particularly impactful in a two-goal outing late in the day against Taft. After kicking things off by shooting right to the goalie's stick, he bounced back by scoring a goal that drew quite a reaction from the sidelines, utilizing his 6'4 frame and putting his shoulder down to send his defender flying. He seemed super poised and confident, always dodging with his head up while scanning for cutters. Having put out some quality film as a sophomore, Douglas seems like a young offensive recruit bound to step into a bigger role as a junior.

Since its inaugural year in 2013, the National High School Lacrosse Showcase has been among recruiters' favorite stops of the summer circuit, offering a more structured team environment and a rare occasion to see players from multiple grad years on the same field.

In an absolutely loaded White Session field, newly minted national champion Calvert Hall (Md.) emerged victorious after going 6-0 on the week, topping Lawrenceville (N.J.) 7-3 in Friday's championship game.

With so much to unpack, we're focusing on a few different storylines from the event, starting with more on a trio of ranked 2026's who continued to raise their stock at NHSLS.
