Bishop Gorman Wins A Barn Burner In Double OT Against The Cougars

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>Las Vegas, NV</em></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>Matchup: Bishop Gorman Gaels vs Coronado Cougars </em></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>Bishop Gorman won the first matchup of the season, 14-10 last month.</em></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='127435' first='Andrew' last='Viloria'] struck first on Tuesday and made it 1-0 Cougars in the first minute or so. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Then Koa Hernandez got involved and made it 2-0 Cougars, after dodging from behind the net. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Bishop Gorman then responded and Diesel Riiber made 2-1 by ripping a shot on the run. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Cougars sophomore middie, Brody Rasmuson, added goal #3 a bit later and you started to sense that it might be their night.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Henry Pack put an exclamation point on the Cougars strong first half by performing an inside roll dodge to perfection and scoring.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>At halftime, it was 4-1 and the Gaels offense was no where to be found. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In the third quarter, the Cougars kept hunting on offense and junior, Koa Hernandez, provided 2 more goals.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Heading into the 4th quarter, it seemed all but over. As the Cougars were up 6-1.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Then Bishop Gorman sophomore, Colton Segler, found some open space in front of the goal and caught a pass from Diesel Riiber. Segler then dumped it in, and it felt like the Gaels finally found some life.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>However, Koa Hernandez then added his third goal in a row, to make it 7-2 Cougars. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Bishop Gorman then committed a penalty and [player_tooltip player_id='127435' first='Andrew' last='Viloria'] made them pay. He shot from the outside and made it 8-2 and a few minutes had already been knocked off the clock in the 4th quarter.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Faceoff man, [player_tooltip player_id='124875' first='Xander' last='Iway'], then essentially took control of the game and began dominating at the X.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>His stellar play helped set up the the rest of their rally, and he got the rock to his playmakers once his job was done.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Diesel Riiber stepped up and made it 8-3 after launching a bounce shot. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Then LSM, Mererk Mastrov, joined in on the fun and made it 8-4. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Bishop Gorman middie, Colton Segler, added the next goal to make it 8-5 and then Diesel Riiber made it 8-6.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>All of sudden, the Cougars had just a 2 goal lead. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Then Colton Segler scored in transtion, and it was 8-7.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>With all of the momentum in Bishop Gorman's favor, the Cougars decided it was time to make a change in goal. And they pulled senior goalie, [player_tooltip player_id='125048' first='AJ' last='Landy'], and threw in freshman, Anthony Taylor.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Diesel Riiber then scored again off of a bouncer and knotted things up at 8. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>At that point there was just a couple of minutes left and it was anyone's ball game. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>But then Koa Hernandez used his speed to get his hands free, and he was able to get a quick shot off that went in, Putting the Cougars back up 9-8. They also put [player_tooltip player_id='125048' first='AJ' last='Landy'], back in the the cage.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Bishop Gorman then started to hunt shots with around a minute left and they were on the brink of losing as time was running out fast.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>There was possibly 5-7 seconds left when attackmen, Casey Unitas, picked up the ball from behind the net. and he then sent the ball up top to who else, Diesel Riiber. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Riiber gathered the ball and wound up all in one motion, bouncing in the game tying goal with 3 second left.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The game then went to overtime, and Bishop Gorman possessed the ball most of the time. Not much later he notched his first goal of the game by sweeping across the field. He then helped them make their unbelievable comeback in the 4th quarter, tallying 4 more goals and 1 assist. His most important goal of the night came with 3 seconds left and used his cannon to connect on a long distance shot to make it 9-9.
