Early Season Kentucky Standouts: Regions Five-Eight

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Taking this spring break week with minimal action to look back at what has been, we shined a light at some of the early season starts in Kentucky's first four regions yesterday. Now lets continue to march westward and take a look at who has stood out amongst the rest in regions five, six, seven, and eight.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Fifth Region</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The fifth region includes six teams with each of them being located in the northern Kentucky counties of Boone and Kenton. Thus far, it has been the Dixie Heights Colonels and Ryle Raiders who have been the most impressive squads in the region. Dixie Heights has the best overall record at 5-3 and is 2-1 in the region. Often operating from that left wing, he is a great off-ball scorer and can also create for himself. Through seven contests he has made his presence felt, collecting 47 ground balls and causing 19 turnovers. He also had four points off three goals and one assists.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Sixth Region</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Covering the counties if Shelby, Oldham, and Anderson, the sixth region is almost certainly South Oldham's to lose. The Dragons currently sit at 6-3 on the year with solid wins over Frederick Douglass and Woodford County. A loss to powerhouse Trinity is South Oldham's only in-state blemish. Elsewhere in the region, Collins is 5-1 with wins over regional foes Shelby County and Oldham County. North Oldham is a surprising 2-6 while Shelby County sits at 3-5. The Mount St. Mary's signee has dominated nearly every battle do date and has continually shown his versatility as a player, making an impact on both ends as well. He works incredibly well at the attack position and had the ability to get himself open off-ball or take his man one-on-one to the rack. A big time goal-scorer, he has found the back of the net 25 times this season so far.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Seventh Region</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>With the seventh region we enter the heart of the Bluegrass as the region is made up of the easternmost teams in Fayette County as well as the two Scott County programs. Henry Clay, after a 0-2 start, has picked up the pace and the Lexington power now sits at 5-2 on the year. That includes a recent win over city rival Lexington Catholic. Fellow region favorite Frederick Douglass is 6-2 on the year with their only losses coming to South Oldham and Woodford County. Davis is very good on-ball and can cause trouble for his matchup, but he also shows strong attributes in other areas as a more versatile pole. He has grabbed 17 ground balls and caused 13 turnovers thus far.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Eighth Region</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The eighth region covers Woodford County as well as the easternmost programs in Fayette County. It's top two squads thus far have been no surprise as Woodford County is off to a 4-1 start while Lexington Catholic is 5-3 to this point in the year. He possesses a good deal of speed and the ability to make plays from seemingly wherever on the field. But he is arguably at his best when initiating from behind the cage at X and is a very good Qb of the Yellowjackets offense. The attackman has a strong presence from X and operates very well around GLE, having the ability to turn the corner and score or find the open man.
