Broadneck was on defense plenty in this contest, and Shaw was the anchor for that unit. This Harvard commit impressed with his ability to shadow ball carriers for long stretches. When the opportunity presented itself, Shaw caused turnovers via heavy stick checks and crafty pokes. His length and imposing frame created issues for Springfield’s offensive players. Shaw also jammed up passing lanes with his stick, which generated a couple of deflections. The Crimson staff will love the ground ball skills he displayed in this game.

Broadneck is lucky to have Wyatt locking down from the LSM position for another two years. Shaw is an all-around high IQ player who brings a lot to the table. His strengths are scooping ground balls, pushing transition, and being crafty with his takeaway checks. Shaw is a key contributor to the way Broadneck wants to pressure you and press it in transition.

Helping make up a terrific class for Harvard (both defensively and overall), Shaw will bring some more grit to Cambridge. He’s physical but doesn’t get himself in trouble, making his presence felt by initiating contact on his approaches and staying on the hands. He’s also got a really good stick and wasn’t afraid to push transition when the opportunity presented himself. With great hips and sound footwork, Shaw moves impeccably well laterally and is able to effectively blanket a wide array of dodgers, both big and small. On top of his defensive skill set, I’ve also heard rave reviews about his character and coachability, both at the event and from those who have been around him on the summer circuit.
