Now wearing No. 9 — a long-standing tradition reserved for the Lakers’ top attackman — the Georgetown commit made his impact felt with and without the ball, repeatedly losing Novak with sneaky and well-timed cuts. Shaw struck early, slipping free in the first half for a 10-yard step-down rip. He found space again early in the second quarter, finishing cleanly by the hash. Just a minute into the fourth, he beat Novak from X and went low for another score, then delivered a slick feed to Joey Kellar for the third goal in BL’s furious four-goal surge. With Matt Higgins now making noise in College Park, the BL offense will need to lean heavily on Shaw — and if this performance is any indication, he’s more than ready for the responsibility after leveling up during the offseason.

Shaw had a tough matchup against Navy commit Brock LaRochelle, but he still showed up in a lot of ways. He put up his first goal dodging a tough approach then going down the alley to finish low and away. A play that many coaches will notice was his third-quarter goal off of a restart. He beat his defender out on a shot, and his defender dove, leaving Shaw uncovered on the restart. Shaw ran in on the restart, faked a pass that moved the goalie then beat the goalie near side, ultimately finishing with two goals and an assist.

As impressive as Shaw was in a showcase setting at the Inside Lacrosse ID Experience in late October, his complete skill set and ability to QB an offense was on display with the Crabs on Sunday. Always making the right reads, he’s exactly the type of player that you’d want operating with the ball in his stick behind the cage and asking to blow by his defender off the end line. Able to see the field at an advanced level, Shaw played under control and was unselfish with the ball while also knowing when to attack his matchup. He had a pretty backhanded assist in the first game I caught, then thrived throughout the rest of the day, showing off a nice hitch as well as a wide array of moves at 5×5.

Highlighted in early April along with several other promising ’27 attackmen, Shaw continues to look every bit of a top prospect in the class at this early point. Doing some of his best work dodging from the wing, the left-handed Texas native sees the field at a high level and has an excellent repertoire of moves to get his hands free for a scoring opportunity. Shaw, who played on a loaded Longhorn attack unit on Sunday, posted five goals in three games, including this beauty. His stick work is excellent, as is his decision-making and knack for knowing what it takes to beat his man. I’ve been really impressed with the progression of his game in the six or so months since he saw time for the Lakers as a freshman, and I’ll be intrigued to see where his game goes from here.
