It’s been harder to gauge Lally’s development since he’s been out all spring with an injury sustained during the hockey season, but even so, he’ll head to South Bend having assembled quite an impressive body of work. Posting 50 goals and 22 assists as a junior, Lally’s a slashing quarterback type capable of beating his man topside with ease, banging shots from the wings, or distributing at a high level. He’ll come in at the perfect time, too, given that Chris Kavanagh will have just graduated.

The Massachusetts native had a great game against Team 91 LI Shock in his first-round playoff game, totaling three goals and an assist. This game was extremely physical, with bodies, helmets, and flags flying everywhere, but Lally did not back down from the physicality. He is an athletic and crafty attackman who doesn’t need much space to make an impact. His dodging ability is probably his best quality, with quick bursts of speed and a hard shot on the run. I counted at least two goals he had when dodging from the wings and sweeping across the field to find an open lane to shoot on the run. He can also affect the game from the perimeter with his vision and ability to take step-down shots with power and accuracy.

With his ability to finish in tight and his fearlessness driving towards the cage, it’s probably a good thing for the Fighting Irish that one of the first player comparisons that came to mind for Lally was Pat Kavanagh. Ranked No. 8 in the class, the Notre Dame commit had a beautiful crease diving goal vs. Leading Edge, a perfect illustration of his skillset. He makes his living just above GLE with his right hand, able to deceive defenders to capitalize on an inch of space or just straight muscle his way to scoring opportunities.
