Heading into his recruitment, the knock on Boyd that I kept hearing was his lack of athleticism. Two years later, that assessment feels almost impossible to fathom. His game has evolved dramatically—he’s playing with confidence, aggressively attacking longpoles with purpose, creating offense, and scoring in bunches. When Boyd puts his foot in the ground, watch out. Possessing exceptional body control, he uses his frame to lean into defenders and create space, or rolls back to his strong hand, though he’s more than capable with his right. This season at Chatham, he’s shown his versatility, lining up at attack, offensive midfield, and even d-mid, where his relentless compete level shines. He’s already nearing last year’s goal total (38), tallying 31 goals and 13 assists through just 10 games.

scored 22 goals & 14 assists as a Varsity starter for Chatham in 2024. The lefty added 13 groundballs on the Year as well! Boyd is good off the ball slipping into dangerous positions where he can use deception & capitalize with his right hand as well. Shep is especially slippery from the left side where he does most of his damage using an elevator shot. He can initiate from the point and shoot out of his split. Boyd makes his move early & comes out of his dodges clean. Dodging with his head up allows him to hit the backside for assists keeping his teammates involved. Verbally committed to Michigan.

Boyd had a good season for Chatham and was highly productive with the minutes he earned, totaling 22 goals, 14 assists, and 14 ground balls. The Michigan commit is a dynamic middle with the ability to score confidently with either hand and always keep his head up when dodging. Ranked 73rd in his class, he has shown the ability to use the spin move effectively on a dodge to quickly roll off of the defender and either shoot or feed a teammate. He has a good shot on the run whether it is coming across the field or down the alley, he has precision and speed and mixes up his shot location to keep the goalies guessing. On step-downs, he lets it fly and stings corners with a hard shot and a quick release when given time and room to do so.

A slick lefty who can play both attack and midfield at a high level, Boyd showed off the ability to score in bunches, lining up on attack and posting six goals between the two BBL games I watched. Shooting it at a high clip from the lefty wing, he did an awesome job of getting back to the middle and executed some well-timed C-cuts before finishing appropriately. On one occasion, he ripped one nearside on the run with a low angle. It was a fairly small sample size, but Boyd was one of the most productive players I’ve seen so far this summer.
