Expert Analysis
Anthony Fortuna | Prep Lacrosse Scout
Ross Jacobsen stepped up for RC Elite throughout the tournament. He has a great feel for when to dodge and uses pace, stick protection, and vision to find open opportunities on the field. He also delivered the game-winning goal in the Championship against ADVNC Black. He drove downhill against Joe Ligas and scored despite tight defensive pressure. It was a very clutch play from the Dartmouth commit.

Producing at least five goals in Sunday’s huge playoff wins, Jacobsen was named the championship MVP and played with a ton of confidence. The Dartmouth commit, who earned All-American honors while posting 81 points this spring, has a phenomenal understanding of spacing without the ball in his stick and sets up his dodges impeccably. He’s able to manipulate defenses with his body language and subtle fakes, then attacks the cage with purpose. Jacobsen isn’t the biggest cat in the world, yet he shoots the heck out of the ball and is armed with a downright nasty release that makes it tough for keepers to get a read on. Jacobsen makes the most of his scoring opportunities as a high-percentage shooter, and overall, it’s noticeable just how much more dynamic and dangerous he has become in a year’s time. In all likelihood, he’ll run out of the box at the next level — given his vast improvement, I’d expect Jacobsen to make an impact in Hanover.

earned 2nd Team All-CIF SD for the second straight season in 2024 with 68 total points. He led the Falcons in goal-scoring as a sophomore, putting away 54 goals & contributing 14 assists. Ross is a methodical dodger using rapid change of direction to create space & free his hands to shoot or pass. He is a sure-handed finisher on the low crease where he can dip & dunk with ease. Jacobsen is a sharpshooter who is averaging an elite shooting percentage of 51% through his first two years as a Varsity starter. He has superior spatial awareness that allows him to find soft spots in the defense where he can catch & shoot. Ross has a viable left & uses proven dodging patterns like the question mark to be effective in multiple areas of the field. He has the stick talent to return the favor to his teammates. Jacobsen is a dependable feeder sweeping off of a pick topside or facilitating from below the goal line in a traditional attacker’s role. He is credited with a freakishly hard work ethic. A consensus 3-star prospect. Verbally committed to Dartmouth.

A good-looking attack prospect from San Diego who led the CIF champion Falcons with 54 goals while shooting close to 50 percent), Jacobsen caught my eye with his playmaking ability at NASG. Though he’s plenty capable as a dodger and took advantage of bad approaches a handful of times, he did some impeccable work as an off-ball finisher, displaying excellent hands and an accurate shot. He consistently got underneath the defense and was highly productive for a Pacific Southwest squad that knocked off eventual champion Long Island in the first game of the event.
