Leo Cylc made his biggest statement this fall with the way he plays away from the ball. His off-ball stance and positioning are advanced, and he pairs that with sharp instincts and timely slide decisions. At the Terp Classic, he consistently took smart angles on his approaches and turned a few of those reps into forced turnovers. On the ball, he has the foot speed to stay attached to straight-line dodgers and does a nice job dictating terms—closing space early and steering carriers into predictable lanes. That matters for the unit, because when the defense is forced to slide, everyone knows where the dodger is being funneled.
Where Cylc really separates himself is in squeeze-and-double situations, a translatable next-level trait. When a pole comes to him, he applies pressure on his side of the double and makes life uncomfortable, often leading to rushed decisions or turnovers. And when he does win the ball back, he’s composed: makes the simple play in the clear and has enough burst to run by an attackman if he needs to turn defense into transition.
