Cross is undoubtedly among the most heralded attackmen in the class at this early point, so I was anticipating how he looked relative to the last time I evaluated him live in November. The 6’2, 180-pounder started better (two helpers in Game 1, then a pair of goals in Game 2) than he finished in game play, but he still posted 1G/1A in the All-Star Game and looked strong throughout the week. I’ve always been pleased with his stick work and finishing ability: he’s super comfortable playing with either hand, puts passes on a rope, and finishes appropriately in tight. He’s armed with a snappy and deceptive release when letting it fly, but there’s a ton of versatility in terms of the ways in which Cross is able to create offense.

earned CHSAA (5A) Honorable Mention All-State & 1st Team All-Conference in 2024. He collected 55 points as a freshman for the State Champion Eagles. JT scored 35 goals & added 20 assists which was good for the second most points on the team. He is unlike any other player in school history as the most highly touted recruit per class to date. Cross brings it as one of the best players on the field regardless of age. He is credited with routinely showing it every day & rarely having bad practice. JT is humble, hardworking, determined, & disciplined. He wants to be coached & corrected through the spotlight in a place most won’t know how to react to it. He killed it as a freshman & it will be exciting to see how big his role is going to be as a sophomore. Cross has given confidence by continuing to make others around him better through his unselfish play! It is rare to see a young guy get the keys to the offense, especially the most prolific in the state.

Upon hearing from people I trust that Cross could be one of the most promising players in the ’27 class, I made sure that I got eyes on his film since I wasn’t able to check out Valor Christian during the Eagles’ Philly swing last month. The first noticeable attribute when watching Cross is, of course, his 6’2 frame. Size like that will catch anybody’s attention, however, it’s not as if he’s a matchup problem simply because he’s a bear who grew earlier than his peers. Cross moves around impeccably well and is fluid in every sense, from his footwork to his wrists to his hands, and he can do it with both his left and right without a noticeable drop-off, though that kind of thing tends to be harder to judge when only watching highlights. What also stood out is how much of a weapon Cross is when he gets to 5×5. It is evident both how hard he’s worked on his game and how well he’s been coached, as he’s got subtle head fakes and hesitation moves in his arsenal. As a shooter, he never gets lackadaisical and does a stellar job of changing levels and hiding the stick head to make his release hard for goalies to pick up. Quite frankly, a lot of what he does is advanced – I’ll be curious to watch the evolution of his game as he gets closer to becoming recruitable.
