About James
Expert Analysis
Niko Amato | Prep Lacrosse Scout
James Whitehorse brings a dynamic offensive presence built on feel, composure, & the ability to deliver in consequential moments. He is a poised & instinctive attacker who shows comfort operating within structure while remaining capable of creating when possessions break down. Whitehorse can step into time & room or battle for positioning off-ball, maintaining focus through contact & chaos around the crease. He played an important role in Salisbury’s early-season statement win over Loomis Chaffee (CT), handing the Pelicans their only loss of the year. As the Crimson Knights’ season progressed, his offensive presence became even more evident, highlighted by a breakout performance against Deerfield (MA), where he repeatedly found ways to produce in a tightly contested overtime battle. James helped lead Salisbury to a runner-up finish at the Prep Nationals tournament while demonstrating the ability to rise within the flow of elite competition rather than operate on its margins. His development carried into international play, where he represented the Haudenosaunee U-20 National Team at the 2025 World Lacrosse Championship in Jeju, South Korea. Competing on behalf of the originators of lacrosse — known as the “Creator’s Game” — Whitehorse recorded a critical two-goal performance in a quarterfinal win over Puerto Rico to help advance his nation to the semifinal round. The Haudenosaunee ultimately finished fourth in the world, reinforcing their place among the sport’s best & their continued pursuit of competing independently on the Olympic stage. James competed against the world’s Gold, Silver, & Bronze medal programs, fortifying both his individual trajectory & his connection to the sport’s deeper lineage. He projects as an offensive player capable of contributing within a championship-level ecosystem. Whitehorse plays with purpose & awareness, carrying himself in a way that reflects both responsibility & opportunity. He is signed to play at Virginia under head coach Lars Tiffany, who has longstanding ties to the Onondaga Nation reservation.

A wildly creative goal-scorer with a flair for the dramatic, Whitehorse took his game to another level during a season of growth at Salisbury, having joined the Crimson Knights mid-year. His game has always been rather highlight reel-friendly, and more than anything, he’s learned to play within himself more and pick and choose when to get fancy and when to just hit a single as opposed to a home run. Whitehorse was awesome with the Haudenosaunee U-20 team over the summer, having lost 15 to 20 pounds, which has allowed him to be even more nimble and tough to limit. He can still play with power and use his big frame wisely, while also showcasing a bit of finesse and flash, as well as his much-improved ability as a feeder. Moving from 40th to 26th in the Northeast rankings, Whitehorse is another player who looks poised to climb even higher in the next edition.

Few players were as entertaining to watch at Project 9 as Whitehorse. The Virginia commit is a true playmaker who combines creativity with efficiency. He’s known for his flair—behind-the-back feeds, twisters, and shovels are all regular parts of his game—but none of it is for show. Every creative move has a purpose, whether it’s to deceive a goalie, open a passing lane, or free up a shooting window. His play style is as productive as it is flashy.
At 6’1″, his sturdy frame allows him to handle contact without losing balance or control. His quick wrists and compact release make him a nightmare for goalies, as he can snap the ball off from any angle and place it precisely where he wants. Whitehorse’s blend of size, creativity, and elite stickwork makes him one of the most dynamic offensive weapons headed to Charlottesville—and a player who will have an immediate impact at the next level.

This big lefty is so fun to watch, making a habit out of scoring ridiculous goals that end up on Instagram reels. Of course, trying to do so often tends to be a detriment for young players who get fancy rather than making the right play. That isn’t the case with Whitehorse, who has indigenous roots and spent time in The Woodlands (Texas) youth organization before heading up to Culver, where he made the prep squad as a freshman. He operates with purpose, putting opponents on high alert with precise well-timed cuts and showcasing a ridiculous handle around the net. Whitehorse gives his teammates confidence to throw the ball in his vicinity knowing that he’ll catch it no matter what and put it in the back of the net, even when poles are draped all over him.
