Of all the Calvert Hall juniors, Spear is the one I’m most interested in seeing in an elevated role after spending last spring on JV. He was a confident ball carrier at that level, dodging from all over the field and scoring with defenders draped all over him.
Spear first caught my eye at the Iron Bowl event in June. As a teammate dodged, he faded toward the near pipe, caught the ball, dropped his hands, and stung the far lower corner. Throughout the summer, he paired flashes of that off-ball scoring with the dodging ability he showed on JV. He attacked confidently from behind and on the wing, creating chances to feed or score, and showed a quick trigger with plenty of velocity behind his shot. The potential is there. Now he needs to bring that same confidence and consistency to an elevated role.
