You have to love a defender who is willing to pick up a short stick at a club tournament. That says a lot about a player. Dowd does not have to rely on the extra 30 inches to be effective. Although his feet are not the quickest on the field, he is fundamental in his approach and has the strength to knock dodgers off their line. No matter the stick in his hand, his motor never changed. He was hustling to ground balls off the wings on faceoffs and running to get involved in transition. When he picked up his pole, he used it well to disrupt dodgers, and he handled the ball nicely on the clear. Overall, he looks like a coachable player who is willing to do the dirty work.
