Schmidt’s weekend in Maryland got off to a flying start on Friday night when he earned the MVP award of the Liberty National Elite Showcase. His stellar play continued throughout the weekend as Schmidt repeatedly proved that he could generate scoring chances for himself and teammates from anywhere in the offensive zone. Operating at both attack and midfield, Schmidt used his size and quick burst to blow past initial defenders and then score or distribute on the move. Schmidt’s solid frame and aggressive style enabled him to charge through sliding defenders. Or he used quick cuts and nifty stick maneuvers to simply elude the help defenders. Schmidt’s speed and lacrosse instincts enabled him to push transition opportunities too. His height advantage allowed Schmidt to see over the top of opposing defenses. That asset combined with Schmidt’s polished stick skills produced a handful of creative dimes.
