On Wednesday night Upper St. Clair High School played host to the WPIAL Class 3A championship game which featured No. 3 seed Shady Side Academy against No. 5 seed, Pine Richland.

In 2025, Shady Side suffered a heart-breaking loss in the 3A championship game. It obvious from opening faceoff of the 2026 title contest that SSA was dead set on redemption. Thanks to two early goals from senior [player_tooltip player_id='177556' first='John' last='Poggi'], SSA jumped all over Pine Richland. By the opening minutes of the second quarter, SSA held a 5-0 lead. At halftime SSA was in control at 7-2.

In the second half, a goal by Pine Richland sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='177557' first='Jackson' last='Reba'] pulled them to within 8-4. But SSA never allowed Pine Richland to get any closer. Eventually the Bulldogs captured a 12-6 victory and took home the WPIAL 3A hardware.

Below is a review of five prospects who impressed during the WPIAL Class 3A championship game.

Shady Side Academy

This explosive and versatile midfielder had a major impact at both ends of the field in this game. On offense, he scored two goals and handed out an assist. His first goal was a 10-yard low to low snipe. Henne's second goal came after he cooked his defender with a split dodge, dashed into open space and then fired a running, lefty overhand shot into the net. This Gettysburg commit also proved he could initiate from X or the low corners. College coaches will love the field awareness and poise Henne displayed as a ball carrier in this win. Plus, Henne hustled back on defense and helped stop a few transition threats by Pine Richland.

During the regular season Mohnestablished himself as one of the top 2028s in the state of Pennsylvania. He provided further evidence for that case on Wednesday night with an electric three goal performance. This athletic and high IQ midfielder used well timed off ball movements to generate all of his goals. The most impressive of Mohn's tallies came on a play where cut from up top to the high crease area, received a pass and then finished top shelf. Mohn also demonstrated that he can absorb significant contact as a cutter or while operating as a ball carrier. His ability to dash out of the box, catch a clearing pass and then swiftly create a scoring opportunity for SSA was impressive too.

Poggi was one of the keys to Shady Side's early 5-0 onslaught. He scored two goals during SSA's first half barrage and handed out an assist. Poggi (Dennison commit) would finish the game with a hat trick to go along with three dimes. Throughout Shady Side's win, this multi-skilled offensive prospect displayed serious shake, crafty off ball cuts / dives and filthy shooting skills. Poggi's third goal was a remarkable individual effort. It came in the 3rd quarter when he dodged from the left wing to the hash mark where Poggi executed an inside spin. Poggi then slipped between his initial defender and the sliding pole towards the middle of the field. Once Poggi found a sliver of open space, he unleashed an overhand jumper into the net.

Pine Richland

Komoroski is committed to UMass-Lowell, and it was apparent Wednesday night that the River Hawks coaching staff found a hidden gem in western Pennsylvania. This athletic and fleet footed LSM with polished stick skills had a major impact in this game. Komoroski's speed and smooth lateral movements enabled him to relentlessly pursue SSA's ball carriers all over the field. He also displayed a knack for causing turnovers via slaps or pokes. Once the ball hit the turf, Komoroski was quick to secure possession and then dash down field. His ability to execute elusive stick maneuvers while running full speed allowed Komoroski to carry the ball deep into the offensive end.

During the WPIAL 3A playoffs Reba posted two goals in both Pine Richland's quarterfinal and semifinal wins. Thus, it should not be a surprise that this athletic and fleet footed midfielder scored two goals in the title contest too. Wednesday night Reba's of ball movements and quick release were the keys to both of his goals. His first tally was an incredible play where Reba drifted into open space around the high crease where he received a timely pass. Then in the same motion, Reba jumped up and fired a turnaround shot into the net. Reba's ability to read the SSA's slides, and double teams produced several impressive passes. Plus, Reba showed versatility in this contest by running at both attack and midfield. College coaches should keep an eye on this 2028 offensive prospect during the state tournament as well as club action this summer.
