Expert Analysis
Michael Campanile | Prep Lacrosse Scout
Clune stood out against Calvert Hall on Tuesday, even without getting on the stat sheet, though he nearly found the back of the net on a well-timed backside cut that just missed in the first quarter. He was tasked with riding Calvert Hall’s athletic short-stick defensive midfielders all game in their punt return style clear. He held his own, consistently applying pressure and forcing them to turn back or to give it up.
Clune continues to carve out a role in the St. Mary’s offense with his off-ball instincts and deceptive style as a ball carrier. While he may not have imposing size, he makes up for it with skill, feel, and a strong lacrosse IQ. That was on full display against John Carroll last week, where he scored against the zone by selling pass first, baiting a defender to guard the man popping off the crease, and then stepping into a clean finish. It’s a great snapshot of his game. Still early in his career, Clune has the tools to continue making strides within the St. Mary’s system.
