St. Ignatius (Calif.) Goes East: Five Wildcats Who Shined

Before heading to South Bend for its weekend matchups with Delbarton and Culver, St. Ignatius lacrosse made a statement on its East Coast trip with an 8–7 win over Georgetown Prep and a 10–8 battle with Chaminade. This roster is loaded with college-level talent, making it tough to single out standouts. Sophomores [player_tooltip player_id='174012' first='Hawkes' last='Packard'] and Tanner Folk, along with upperclassmen [player_tooltip player_id='129920' first='Casey' last='McDougall'] and [player_tooltip player_id='82256' first='Hunter' last='Cristo'], all deserve a ton of credit—but here are five Wildcats who shone brightest during the trip.    [player_tooltip player_id='176051' first='Bryson' last='Lewis'] looked right at home on St. Ignatius' East Coast trip, posting 12 saves against Georgetown Prep and 16 against Chaminade while allowing just seven and eight goals, respectively. The Wildcat defense played well in front of him, but Lewis still came up with several game-changing stops across both matchups. The Holy Cross commit competes with a confident edge, one that surfaces in high-stakes moments, and he showed the ability to make tough saves from every angle.   Lewis was sharp on high shots, quick down low, and clean off his off-stick side. He demonstrated impressive flexibility, stretching to get low off-stick stops while reading skip passes and reacting instantly to inside looks. He also showed smart footwork and poise by absorbing saves off his body when needed. Against top-tier programs like Georgetown Prep and Chaminade, goalies either show they belong or get exposed. Lewis clearly belongs.     The combination of [player_tooltip player_id='37495' first='Max' last='Ripple'] and Kody Haan proved very hard to contain during St. Ignatius' East Coast trip, giving both Georgetown Prep and Chaminade problems. Ripple posted three goals and two assists in the Wildcats' matchup with Chaminade, along with two goals in the win over Georgetown Prep.   Against Prep, Ripple opened the scoring with a smooth left-handed finish up the hashes, threading a shot around a tight defender under pressure. His second came after catching on the wing, turning the corner, and releasing a quick low-to-low rip before the trailing check could land—showcasing his ability to finish through contact and at speed. In the Chaminade game, Ripple buried two lefty step-downs from a similar low release and added a right-handed goal off a dodge from behind the cage. He also assisted Haan twice, highlighting the chemistry between the two and how seamlessly they read each other's movements. The “Cali Connection” of Haan and Ripple has become a focal point of the St. Ignatius offense—one that upcoming defenses need to focus on when it comes to scouting the Wildcats.     The hero of St. Ignatius' win over Georgetown Prep was senior attackman Kody Haan, who buried the game-winner with 8.3 seconds remaining to complete his hat trick. He followed that up with a four-goal, one-assist performance against Chaminade, capping off an impressive East Coast showing. Against Georgetown Prep, Haan surprised with two right-handed goals. On one, he dodged a short-stick matchup behind the cage, saw daylight when dared to his right, and converted with a dunk before the slide arrived. His second right-handed goal came on the game-winner—a slick sequence where he caught left-handed, switched to his right to avoid the traffic, stepped in, and ripped top shelf. His lone left-handed tally was a crafty stepdown on a skip pass, bouncing it through an approaching defender's legs to screen the goalie and finish.   Haan's four goals against Chaminade followed a similar blueprint. He seamlessly transitions from dodging to setting his feet, using defenders as natural screens, and varies his release points to keep goalies guessing. The Tufts commit proved that his scoring ability translates against elite competition. Expect him to make an early impact when he arrives in Medford.     When you recruit a player like [player_tooltip player_id='40428' first='Tanner' last='Olrich'], you know exactly what you're getting—versatility, athleticism, and a knack for making winning plays in critical moments. No matter where he lines up, Olrich finds a way to impact the game. He's everywhere for St. Ignatius: on face-off wings, man-up units, man-down situations, and primarily on the offensive end. One of the grittiest plays of the Wildcats' East Coast trip came in the final seconds against Georgetown Prep, when Olrich scooped a ground ball with around 11 seconds left, ran through multiple checks, and found [player_tooltip player_id='129953' first='Kodiak' last='Haan'] for a stepdown that sealed the win. Earlier in the fourth quarter, he assisted [player_tooltip player_id='37495' first='Max' last='Ripple'] on a skip pass to give St. Ignatius a 7–5 lead, and he got the Wildcats on the board early with a smart off-ball goal in the first quarter. Reading the defense perfectly, Olrich recognized his man had slide responsibility on [player_tooltip player_id='174012' first='Hawkes' last='Packard']'s dodge, slipped to the righty wing, and hammered a low-to-high finish in stride. Olrich's stat line tells part of the story—but his value goes far beyond points. For St. Ignatius, he can do it all and make everyone around him better.     Tasked with one of the toughest assignments of St. Ignatius' East Coast trip, [player_tooltip player_id='129667' first='Tucker' last='King'] battled well against Georgetown Prep's Noah Han. Han finished with two goals, one in transition when King had to rotate to cover, and another on a top-center dodge, but both scores came off strong individual efforts from one of the top players in the country. While King could've gotten into Han a little bit more, he consistently disrupted similar sequences throughout the game. He did this with his footwork in his 1v1 matchup and by limiting Han's touches by pressing out when he was adjacent to the ball carrier.   Prep relies on Han in a variety of ways—initiating from behind, around goal line extended, and up top, often using picks to free him. King handled it all well, showing excellent awareness and footwork while staying disciplined with his fundamentals. He opens matchups with assertive poke checks and maintains pressure on hands without sacrificing position. When the right moment came to slide or jump a vulnerable ball carrier, King timed it well. The recent Villanova commit is a stable presence for the St. Ignatius defense, playing a major role in why the Wildcats have been so difficult to score on during their East Coast swing.
