Kiski traveled to Archbishop Spalding on Tuesday for a compelling PA–MD private school matchup, and the Cavaliers made a clear statement about their depth and balance across the field. Spalding's roster showed it has both the talent and the legs to sustain success deep into the season. The veteran offensive group set the tone, led by seniors [player_tooltip player_id='37501' first='Brady' last='Mollot'] (1g/3a), [player_tooltip player_id='175272' first='Adam' last='Schwab'] (4g), and [player_tooltip player_id='123773' first='Brody' last='Moss'] (2g), along with junior [player_tooltip player_id='165952' first='Zach' last='Gutierrez'] (2g/1a). They meshed seamlessly with a skilled young core that included sophomores [player_tooltip player_id='172072' first='Braylen' last='Jones'] (2g/1a) and [player_tooltip player_id='170720' first='Gavin' last='Carpenter'] (1g/2a).

On the other side of the field, Spalding's defensive midfield set the tone early. Seniors [player_tooltip player_id='175274' first='Carson' last='Blair'] and [player_tooltip player_id='123716' first='Chris' last='George'] locked down Kiski's midfield unit with steady support from sophomore LSM [player_tooltip player_id='169935' first='Vincent' last='Berger']. Junior close defenders [player_tooltip player_id='143485' first='Jackson' last='Hines'] and [player_tooltip player_id='165660' first='Brady' last='LaRochelle'] were equally impressive, using heavy hands on slides and doubles. Hines, in particular, stood out with multiple caused turnovers fueled by sharp instincts.

Here's a closer look at five standout performers from Spalding's 12–6 win over Kiski:

Senior lefty attackman [player_tooltip player_id='175272' first='Adam' last='Schwab'] is having his moment and looks primed for a breakout season. He was the player Kiski's defense couldn't solve on Tuesday, finishing with four first-half goals that set the tone early. Three of his tallies came off feeds from [player_tooltip player_id='37501' first='Brady' last='Mollot'], including the game's first two.

Schwab opened the scoring in transition when Mollot skipped a pass across the break. Schwab followed the slide, gave a subtle fake, and finished near-side with pressure right in front of him. Less than a minute later, Mollot drew an adjacent slide from behind the cage, and Schwab faded into a soft spot to uncork an underhand laser to the top shelf. A few minutes later, he cut across the middle to meet a pass from [player_tooltip player_id='172072' first='Braylen' last='Jones'] on the right wing, catching and releasing a jump shot that bounced off the turf and snuck high. His final goal of the day came once again off a Mollot feed from X — a well-timed skip to the perimeter, where Schwab set his feet and shot around both the goalie's stick and a defender's hip, freezing the netminder in place. Schwab's performance proved that defenses can't afford to lose track of him. Give him a yard of space, and he'll turn it into a timely cut or a step-down opportunity, punishing goalies with his smooth, deceptive lefty release.

[player_tooltip player_id='172072' first='Braylen' last='Jones'] is one of several promising 2028 Annapolis Hawks products making an early impact at Spalding. The athletic sophomore showed off his two-way ability in Tuesday's win over Kiski, finishing with two goals and an assist. He's the kind of player Spalding trusts on both sides of the field, comfortable taking a few defensive runs each game without panicking to get him off on the defensive end. Offensively, Jones is as well-rounded as they come for his age. With the ball, he's shifty and deceptive — using pure speed, changes of direction, and speed variation to gain steps on his matchup. He knows how to work to better shooting angles and has the power to sting corners from range with his feet set. In tight, he moves goalies effectively and finishes with confidence. Off the ball, he shows a sense of spacing, slipping into seams inside or floating to the backside for clean step-down looks. His outing against Kiski was a great snapshot of all those tools.

His first assist came effortlessly — taking a feed from X attackman [player_tooltip player_id='37501' first='Brady' last='Mollot'] and moving it one more to a timely [player_tooltip player_id='175272' first='Adam' last='Schwab'] cut that resulted in an easy finish. His first goal came on the first of two connections with [player_tooltip player_id='170720' first='Gavin' last='Carpenter']. Carpenter drew a double, slipped free, and found Jones cutting inside with his left hand. It was a smart read by Jones, recognizing there was no two-slide coming and finishing calmly with his off-hand. His second goal came on another well-timed read — setting himself in the perfect spot to catch Carpenter's feed and bury a step-down shot low and away with his right hand.

[player_tooltip player_id='175274' first='Carson' last='Blair'] first caught my eye at NHSLS in the fall, and he continued to impress in Spalding's matchup against Kiski on Tuesday. He's the gritty, competitive, and athletic short-stick defensive middie that every team wants. Blair showed he's tough to beat, reads plays naturally, and pushes the tempo like no other. His instincts were on full display with multiple interceptions, baiting passes before jumping lanes when Kiski's offense assumed he'd stay back, and relaxed.

What stands out most is his ability to push the tempo in transition. He played a key role in Spalding's first goal, getting up and out once the ball hit the turf, receiving a pass from fellow short stick [player_tooltip player_id='123716' first='Chris' last='George'], and immediately going coast-to-coast to spark the break. His burst forced a rotation that eventually led to an [player_tooltip player_id='175272' first='Adam' last='Schwab'] dunk. Later, his play of the day was when he read a lazy looping pass near midfield, jumping it like a cornerback under a screen pass, and hitting [player_tooltip player_id='170720' first='Gavin' last='Carpenter'] in stride for an easy finish. The UMBC commit embodies the kind of edge and athleticism that drives winning plays, and he'll be a major piece of Spalding's success this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='175276' first='James' last='Kendall'], an uncommitted senior, was the offensive bright spot for Kiski in their loss to Spalding. The lefty has a lot going for him, but his scoring instincts stand out most. In tight, he shows great deception, using fakes to move goalies and finishing with precision in tight windows. Off the ball, he's crafty, consistently slipping into open seams and handling physical coverage with composure. He can also stretch defenses with his feet set, burying shots cleanly when given space.

That scoring touch was on full display against Spalding. His first goal came from a smart read below GLE — recognizing the defense zoning it up, finding the gap, flipping his hips, and ripping a quick sidearm release high. His second came in transition after a hard bounce, where he scooped up the loose ball and once again used a quick sidearm finish to beat the goalie up high. Kendall's knack for finding open space and capitalizing on chances makes him a reliable finisher who continues to trend upward as an uncommitted senior.

Bordin-Pusey, a Toronto native, was one of the bright spots for Kiski in their matchup against Spalding, impressing with his play between the lines. He flashed all the tools of a next-level LSM — range, instincts, and a willingness to make plays in tough areas. Despite Kiski struggling at the faceoff X, his impact was immediate when the staff bumped him up from close and double-poled the faceoff. He consistently got his stick into traffic, battled for contested ground balls, and came away with several clean pickups that were both stylish and effective. Bordin-Pusey even took a faceoff himself, a move that speaks to what the coaching staff thinks of him. With the ball in his stick, he handles well, showing calm and collected stickwork and the creativity to evade checks with dangles and toe drags.

Down low, he drew the assignment of covering [player_tooltip player_id='37501' first='Brady' last='Mollot'], one of the most dangerous offensive players in the country. While he took his knocks at times in that matchup, the staff's willingness to leave him in those one-on-one situations shows their confidence in his defensive upside. If he adds more physicality in his individual defense, Bordin-Pusey has the potential to be a serious problem at Hampton next season.
